Compelling argument, and cant see any easts or penriff agenda to it. but i think hes spitting into the wind. He gave 4 or five reasons for Why It had to change , Speed of game, Mums letting Kids play, Future litigation, Player welfare And said Well Which is it ? .... Well its ALL of IT ! Like it or not.

I heard a suggestion somewhere that a legs tackle be rewarded (like a surrender tackle). Seems a worthy idea; rewarding legs tackle while sanctioning head contact.. Carrot AND a stick, etc

The argument is that if we continue down this path of stupidity, head injuries, HIA's will still happen regardless because you can't take the intensity and unpredictability out of the game.

No one will watch half arsed touch football style NRL.

"How did we escalate to this so quickly, why now?"

Ask Trent Robinson and the Journos who kept banging on about protecting Tedesco and giving an advantage to the team fouled against.

My biggest gripe in all this was that they brought in a new rule about how refs weren't going to stop the game unless it was a serious injury. If the trainer wanted to stop the game they could request it, however that meant that the player in question would have to come off for 5 minutes or whatever. This was in an attempt to stop diving and slowing the game up. This has now gone out the window with the refs stopping it at every moment and all of a sudden players are milking it all over the place again.

When you go low and hang on to them as long as you like but the player offloads to someone who scores, is that the carrot or the stick?

It might be time to fire up the Saturn Fives again. Operation Apollo Mark 2 might be about to begin.

Mission control has directed that should such operations recommence than soft landings will only be permitted.

I remember a great legs tackler we had called Speechley. Think he went off near every week with a concussion.

Nice idea but don't think it is the answer.

Why doesnt anybody mention Tedescos habit of dropping/falling as he passes??
This is why he keeps getting hit in the head.
Every time.
Stay upright man.

as I recall Speechley was often targeted by opposition players as he was bloody good, not only as a tackler but in setting up attacking moves with well timed passes. That was often the reason he copped concussions.

My recollection is differnt.

I seem to remember him going in low on a tackle, head in the wrong spot or player coming down on his head and getting up with the jelly boots on, seen to for a bit then continueing on.

And don’t forget the dog act hit from Terry Lamb - which he didn’t even get sanctioned for. Pretty much ended his career with that.
Shame, as he was a champion player

Aaahhhh...why do you want to go there?
Just when l had just about fogotten this.

The dogs.
Yep. Speech ran in and tapped Lamb as he thought he was going to get the ball. Lamb baaically knocked him out. Lamb got the penalty.
Never ever feel sorry for those filthy scumbag pieces of shit from belmore. I hope they never come out of the mire theyre in.

Mark wakefield. Turvey finished his career.
Sludge. Mark Bugden finished his career. Sludge recovered and went to UK, broke his leg and played for the scum..so not much of a recovery.
Bugdens hit was round 1. A new coach - some bloke called jack gibson. Slidge moved to lock. A host of young stars. A season to savour and our captain and best player in the comp never wore our shirt again

Well it's carrot for attacking side. Hopefully for the defence the mofo that was going to go high when you went low is hanging back a bit to defend the offload.I don't know but I do know it's NOT the same as Gus Gould's We've been through it all before. NO. Now if we really want to keep the game need to seriously address concussion issue. Factual and data supported evidence is great , because that is all the future tsunami of litigation will look at.

The fellow going low if he gets concussion can be said to have mistimed or been careless and injured himself, The fellow going high will most probably be looking at carelessly endangering someone else. As in the bread winner, father, etc of a family.Im not a legal professional but .... higher that gets in courts, the more it gets down to simple considerations like that.

Former Cronulla captain Steve Rogers successfully sued Canterbury-Bankstown hooker Mark Bugden and the Canterbury Rugby League Football Club for a vicious head-high tackle during a match at Belmore Oval in 1985.

The court was told that Canterbury coach Warren Ryan had made it "as clear as crystal" to his team that they should do all they could to prevent Rogers from "using his talents to the full".
