Of Course Origin still the ultimate?

But that's my point, people are claiming the ARLC do nothing for the international game, and yet here we are with a standalone weekend "in-season" with 3 international test matches being played and likely more next year.

People think its dropping Origin that is the solution, it isn't, its this weekend.

Its slowly building into something massive, I reckon within a decade this will be huge.

No doubt it will PNG and Fiji will get better from playing in ARLC Competitions. These tests were funded by ARLC also overlooked

For as long as I can remember the international games have been predictable blow outs. That's not the case anymore. Will get there with more tests for these minnows.

England hasn't played a home test since 2013 but lets ignore that to bag out SOO

Origin will always be the ultimate. Sucks for the Kiwis and the pom's but its just how it is. Me nor anyone else I know cares about the result of this game, just hoping no-one from my club gets injured due to this exhibition match.

Kiwi's won their origin game, now lets get ready for the real one.

Only Aussies from a narrow POV would say shit like this.

Reality Check for Australians: SOO is not the Pinnacle when the best players play for another side besides NSW and QLD

Lol whenever the Kiwis win or it's a close game the (usually kiwis) Origin haters come out of the woodwork.

Can't wait for the pinnacle of our game in a few weeks.

 The Pinnacle is all well and over bud. 22-12

Now let's see SOO injure more people to ruin their teams NRL aspirations.

Pinnacle Order: NRL Premiership ---> International -------> State of Origin

OP assumed we give a shit.

Why the cantankerous attitude to what was a fantastic game of Rugby League?

This attitude frustrates me as someone who is involved in RL, many so-called RL fans/officials can't see the forest for the trees. Grow the game internationally and the NRL will grow as well, it's not hard to comprehend but unfortunately comprehension or common sense is not abundant in RL.

Why does International football need to be the pinnacle? SOO is the envy of every other code we have in Australia, what's so wrong with that?

Why is there not room for both, it's not a case or one or the other? I like Origin footy but give me 3 tests v NZ anytime. It's true that in the past many tests were lopsided but that's not the case anymore. Gone are the days when NZ had to pull players out of reserve grade, they now have good depth and will be competitive if not dominant for years to come. I've said it for a couple of years now, Aust vs NZ tests can be just as big if not bigger than SOO's.

Yeah ill meet you there, Test matches will always have the best players playing, but origin will always produce the best and most anticipated games for numerous reasons. Theres way too many hurdles for international rugby league to become relevant. Their world cup is an absolute embarrassment.

I don't share your thoughts on NRL imperialism. The Australian public has to divide itself across 4 different simultaneous football codes, people like you who have ideas of nationwide domination are deluded. The average Victorian is going to tell you to f**k off with your rugby league the same way I'm going to tell them to f**k off with their AFL, rightfully so.

... you do realise it's ih8originkiwis5eva spastics who bring up Origin first? This thread was originally in the NRL forum hence the "who gives a f**k" style replies.

I don't see why the world cup is relevant to a discussion about the Australia v NZ rivalry.

The question I'd ask is with NZ making the NSW and Qld Origin stars so second rate lately, how can we continue to talk about Origin as if it's producing the best contests when our games against NZ has better players and is more evenly contested?

You didn't watch the last World Cup did you? Also who is 'their', aren't you a RL fan?

I am, I just disassociate myself that joke of a tournament.

Can hardly call something a world cup if there's only 2 teams capable of winning the damn thing.

Why all the hate for the League World Cup? It's basically just an exhibition event for Rugby League and the last one was a heck of a lot of fun and made some solid cash for the IRFL.

I mean, it's not exactly the Union or soccer world cup, but it's not pretending to be.

How many teams are seriously capable of winning the football World Cup? Maybe 3 or 4 each time? One team lost 7-1 in the semi-final last year. How many teams are capable of winning the RU World Cup? Again, maybe 3 at the absolute max, NZ, Australia and South Africa. We are really not that far behind even after completely ignoring international development for almost 100 years. And we are definitely never going to catch up by complaining about how the whole thing is a joke without even giving it a chance.

The last RLWC turned a $6 million profit and produced some of the most enjoyable matches I've seen in the last decade. If you get over yourself and enjoy it for what it is it's a f**king great tournament and will only continue to grow. You don't lose anything by supporting it and you don't gain anything by burying it and calling it a joke.

Anyway, Origin only has two teams that can win and will only ever have two teams that can win and that's supposed to be the pinnacle, so the RLWC is alright I reckon.

Sold out and record crowds, competitive games featuring some of the finest footballers of all the codes in some of the most famous stadiums on earth watched by people from more nations than ever before resulting in millions of dollars profit being poured back into the sport = joke of a tournament!

"Passionate" rugby league supporter theory.

With absolutely 0 confusion about just who will be playing in the finals.

Sorry but Australia & NZ bashing the crap out of tonga/png/fiji dosen't interest me.

I would add England (host) who won in 2003 and France who made the final in 2011, 1999 and 1987. After that you could put Wales, Ireland as chances since its being played over in England and they would be used to the conditions.

And neither do the other 30 odd close rugby league games, most of which were as good if not better than many NRL games. But it's all good, rugby league isn't for everybody, I understand.

I love international RL. Some of the best games at the last RLWC were between 2 lower ranked teams.
Great, competitive, RL.
