The team for NZ: Daniel Anderson interview

DANIEL Anderson joked last week that NRL chief David Gallop had stitched him up with the draw for round one which sees the Eels clash with the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday.
But, who better to take on the highly fancied New Zealand outfit than a side led by their former coach, one who took them to the grand final in 2002.
It is going to be a very special moment for me as it is my first game as the Parramatta coach, Anderson said.
David Gallop has stitched me up with the draw, going back to the Warriors, but it will be very nice to see some mates I have over there.
In his time at the Warriors Anderson turned them into one of the most dangerous attacking sides in the competition.
Already Anderson has moved to shake things up at the Eels, who finished a disappointing 11th last year after narrowly missing the grand final in 2007.
The highest profile change has seen the talented Jarryd Hayne moved to five-eighth.
In the Eels three trial matches Hayne has shown enough for Anderson to indicate he will be given time to settle in the position.
I thought Jarryd played very well against the Roosters and got the rewards for the effort he put in, Anderson said.
He showed he is becoming more settled and more comfortable in that role.
Haynes move to pivot sees Feleti Mateo return to lock which should see him afforded more opportunity to run at opposition defenses.
Another significant change at the Eels has seen the return of Eric Grothe, who fell out of favour under former coach Michael Hagan.
Grothe will line up on the wing against the Warriors in what will be his 100th first grade match. Joel Reddy is the other winger.
However, out of everything happening at the Eels, Anderson said the return of the hard-working Ben Smith at centre was the most exciting.
I really hope Ben plays the majority of matches this year, Anderson said.
He has trained exceptionally and he adds a huge dimension to the team so if he plays 20-plus games then Parramatta is going to benefit.
With exciting Krisnan Inu named at number four, the Eels have a back-line capable of blasting a game wide open.
There is not too much that is of concern so we just have to prepare diligently for a very, very good team in the Warriors who performed well in the trials and have done well in recruitment, Anderson said.
