You’ve gotta ask what was the plan to get Talakai involved. 23 minutes and only touched the ball 4 times. One of which was coming off his own line.

Surely there was some sort of idea to get it to him out on an edge somewhere. Say, like they did with Angus Crighton all night.

At any rate, I’m with @bad boy bubby: 23 minutes, 4 runs, 9 tackles means fresh enough to start.

At least Talakai comes to be coaches by Fitzy, not the Buffon Fittler

He had one loose carry BlueFox.

I’m putting only 1/3 of the blame on that Ponga try on him.

Ponga bumps of Luai first and that is where that try starts and ends for mine.

He had a couple of strong Carries and made some solid tackles.
Couple of things on that loose carry too…

1 - in the NRL, I’m pretty sure he gets a penalty for head contact or strip on that carry.

2 - if you watch, he’s on a hiding to nothing on that run all because Burton had lost his bottle and didn’t fancy a run - Sifa had to rush around to provide the runner option, and didn’t have time to get there for a straight hard run, so was always going to get dominated running sideways out of the corner with a baying mob shooting up in defence. Burton should have been the one taking that hit up as he had time to get his run sorted, Sifa would have got into acting half.

Dearden in doubt? :p

-----

“You go across to the Queensland dressing room and it was like a penthouse party in Vegas,” Riccio said.

“They were going off.

“I won’t name the player, but he was up on the eski and just putting the beers away like no tomorrow and if he plays this weekend I will be very surprised.”

Riccio soon revealed the player was Dearden.

“I may have hinted at him before, but if Tom Dearden plays, the rookie Queenslander, I will be surprised,” Riccio said.

“But he certainly deserved to enjoy himself.”

Sifa was ordinary.

If he was supposed to be a middle why was he defending 3 in the whole time he was on. Why wasn't he still 3 in when NSW was trying to get out of the bad end. He looked stage struck to me.

If he only had 4 runs a lot of that is down to him not getting involved. It's all too easy to blame other but he was wandering around out wide looking confused most of the time. He also looked gassed after 5 minutes.

Disappointing but you snorkels should call it for what it was not what you want to see.

He was hooked after all. Yes, hooked

Unfortunate for him he was hooked but after a solid start he looked a bit lost out there. The miss on Ponga was bad and the error in the play the ball is unforgiveable at that level.

Joey made some comment about some players not being made for origin (or words to that effect) and my first thought was that he was talking about Sifa.

That said, he has a whole season between now and the next origin to prove he does belong at that level and he has youth on his side.

His card will be marked after that game.

Its by far the biggest stage he has played on and he didn't get it done. Saifiti was strong but Sifa got lost whilst others were imploding as well.
