I went there with quite a few mates a couple of years ago, on a very wet, cold and windy day. They only sold KB. The best part was that there was no limit.
We were buying 12 at a time. There was only a couple of hundred people there but the crowd posted was 87**, or whatever they always announce the crowd as.
They even sprinkled some dead blokes ashes over the half way line before kick-off as some sort of remembrance ceremony.
And there was the usual ground announcement that a car parked inside the ground on the other side had left their headlights on.
Ahhhh, the good old days.

Suity

Henson Park is a classic. Had some great times there in my youth. One big memory is of Ron (Thirsty) Lynch carrying an injured Laurie Wakefield to the sideline for attention by the Zambuk..I think it was 1970..The year Laurie, Terry Scurfield (Parkes) and Denis Mount (Warialda)signed after the City v Country game, and Thirsty was the Captain/Coach. Had a soft spot for the old Blue Bags in those days..and yes, you could Park your cars in the ground like what happens in CRL Group Rugby League...Beeping of horns adds a dimension to supporting your team.....

Didn't Ron Graham join the club too?

Nary a cloud in the sky here at Henson Park for the NSW Cup double header. While Cronulla play Windsor in an important top-of-the-table clash, the other fixture is what most of us are interested in as Newtown play host to Wentworthville.Currently sitting at sixth place on the ladder, the reigning premiers Newtown are looking to consolidate their position inside the top eight where as Wentworthville sit just outside the top eight in ninth place and a win here would temporarily get them a berth in the eight (results pending).

Both teams are out warming up with the conclusion of the Cronulla/Windsor game imminent. I will keep you posted when the expected team changes are announced.

Ron Graham was a local junior. He first played in 1967...He was a good player..no a bloody good player..From memory, he was selected in the centres for NSW, after playing for City 1 v Country in 1971, but pulled out with an injured ankle. He was being touted as a future Super star..but I can't recall him getting another representative game. He gave it away at the end of 1974. But RON was an exciting player, who, in my opinion, never reached his full potential.

I've caught sight of jerseys #19, #21 and #24 so there are at least three changes.

I was told early in the week that Willie Tonga, kaysa Pritchard, Sean Jackson and Jake Mullaney could be late inclusions ... I think there's a ground announcer at Henson so you should be able to work out who the changes are from him.

To add to the other 3 changes it looks like Kaysa is in #20

#19 looks to be playing fullback today.

Cheers Stagger. I believe Tonga is in the #21, that would mean Jackson is probably in the #24 but I am pretty sure that isn't Mullaney in the #19.

Anyway changes should be announced soon.

So the announcer made something of a mouthful of it but from what I can gather...

#19 is Charlie Heretoukuku (sp)

#21 is NOT Willie Tonga, seems to be a prop.

#20 is Kaysa

#24 is Sean Jackson

Sorry about the confusion...on to the game!

Wenty will kick off the game as they run towards the hill.

The Jets make some headway through second phase play in their first set, causing Wenty to scramble on one occasion. They get to their last tackle down field where it is taken by Semi Radradra who sets off on the first run for Wenty.

The kick chase is poor and Semi brushes of 3 or 4 would be tacklers before bursting into open space. He practically strolls past the fullback on his way to the try line as he notches up an 80m run next to his name.

Awesome run by Semi.

Conversion is nailed.

Wenty lead 6-0

Wenty now receive a penalty on thier 40m line.

Luke Kelly finds touch 30m out from the Jet's line.

Kelly works the right-edge and links up with Manu Mau via an inside ball. Mau makes good metres before getting pulled down.

Wenty come back to their left for the last two tackles before hoisting a bomb up to the right. The Wenty chasers soar high and have the advantage but they can't control it and the refs calls for a turnover.

Both teams turn the ball over in the midfield before the Jet's catch Wenty infringing on the 10m.

Newtown get their first real chance of the game and focus their efforts on attacking the posts early in the count.

They then spread it fast and wide to their right looking for an overlap but the pass in wayward and trickles into touch.

Wenty ruck it out in reply before a good fifth tackle kick just rolls too far and the Jets get a 20m restart.

Ooooh, maybe a half chance wasted there for the Jets. The dummy half decides to take on the tiny short side but catches most of the ruck defence napping. Semi is the only one awake to the play and jams on the runner but not before he gets a pass away. Once again it fails to find the intended receiver and instead finds touch again.

From the restart, Dylan Gilbert finds 20 odd metres up the middle of the park in a strong run. Kelly decides to bomb the right edge and in similar circumstance to the first bomb, Wenty go up but can't come down with it and turn it over.

Newtown punish some lazy defence on our right edge from the restart as they break clean through. The runner finds Adam Henry in support to get past Charlie Heretukuku and he scores under the cross bar.

Conversion is successful.

The game is all tied up again.

Momentum with Newtown now as Wenty are penalised for infringing the 10m again.

Newtown resume play on the halfway line.

Terrible goal line defence from Wenty results in a soft try to #1 Henare Wells as he somehow drags 3 defenders over the line and plants the ball down. The hometown crowd seems surprised he scored as he had no right to in that situation.

Conversion is taken easily.

Newtown lead Wenty 12-6

Massive metres for the Jets from the kickoff as they rumble their way down to the Wenty 20m line.

Takai puts good pressure on the fifth tackle kick before Fritz/Readon (not sure) defuses the kick.

Wenty struggle for metres in their reply set before attacking down their left edge in a sweeping backline move. Newtown have the numbers matched but Gilbert draws the winger in as he holds the ball up. Gilbert gets his arm free looking to link up with Radradra but the offload is just of course and runs into touch.

Hmmm...not sure what happened there but Gilbert went down injured for a bit and the ref called the ball back for a Wenty play-the-ball.

Wenty complete their set with a kick that finds a well set fullback. He causes havock down our right edge again before getting pulled down 10m into our territory.

Newtown attack the Wenty goaline with second phase play but some good awareness from Luke Kelly means he snatches an intercept and kills Jet's momentum.

The Mapgies now find some metres as Radradra and Pritchard work hard in the ruck before a clever kick on the last traps the Jets ingoals.

Wenty will get the drop out.
