The dally m is a news corp award, ch9 don't even go, and the two Victorian presenters on Offsiders actually work for news corp, today's host has been to the dally m & was at the launch for fox league! It doesn't make any difference to a Victorian produced show biased to a Victorian audience, like most ABC productions.

The NRL should be talking to the ABC about a sports show based in Sydney mainly covering league but also union, soccer and cricket, netball etc. But here is the thing, the NRL is too lazy to do that sort of networking. The clubs would be wanting to know why we are wasting money that could be spent by them on centres of excellence. Instead we just play the victims.

2) Cricket to be expected ,can't argue during summer.
3) A league because one of their main panel members is the National soccer coach.
4) NRL : Passing comment usually when a negative incident happens and complete ignorance of major rl events post game G/F and All Stars Indigenous.Complete gloss over of NRL results.The very rare apearance of anyone on the panel ,with a rl background.

I’m sorry you are disappointed with the rugby league coverage on Offsiders.

The discussion on February 5 didn’t mention the Jillaroos specifically but we did discuss the NRL’s moves to start up a women’s national league – including a quote from Tony Greenberg where he said there wasn’t a strong enough grass roots base yet and they didn’t want to be rushed into a new competition.

We didn’t discuss the Auckland Nines because it is essentially a pre-season competition with little riding on the result – we haven’t covered the AFL’s pre-season competition for the same reason.

I’d dispute the fact that the only time rugby league is discussed is when ‘there is something that will embarrass the code’.

All through the season we look at the major results of the round, but we are a sports issues show not a sports results show and even the most hardened of league fans would concede the NRL delivers a fair deal of controversy.

An issues-based show like Offsiders can’t ignore major stories like the Eels salary cap saga, the Cronulla Sharks drugs case or this week the Simona betting scandal.

They all have a major impact on the game.

As for treating AFL issues with ‘kid gloves’– did you watch any of the Offsiders coverage of the Essendon drugs scandal?

It’s been pointed out many times that the NRL handled that one miles better than the AFL.

Finally the Indigenous All Stars match is a wonderful event, as is the AFL equivalent, but they are now annual events that, thankfully, pass without much controversy.

We have Roy Masters and Josh Massoud on the show this week for the start of the NRL season so I think you’ll find there will be plenty of talk about rugby league as there will be throughout the season.
