OKI Jubilee Tops `Gong On Crowd Average

For the second season in succession, Kogarah's OKI Jubilee Stadium has recorded a higher NRL crowd average than Wollongong's WIN Stadium.

Kogarah finished the season with an average attendance of 14,975 compared to Wollongong's average of 13,988. Kogarah's superior record is particularly impressive considering the blockbuster matches that were allocated to WIN Stadium.

While Kogarah hosted the important local derby against the Sharks, WIN Stadium gained blockbuster matches against Penrith, Canterbury, Newcastle and Brisbane.

The St.George Bank Dragons also held a better success rate at Kogarah in 2004, winning 75% of their matches compared to 57% at WIN Stadium.

The Dragons have now played 385 matches at Kogarah since 1950, recording 263 victories, 112 losses and 10 draws. In all six years of the joint venture, WIN Stadium has finished behind the Dragons' Sydney home venues on crowd average.

Get over it...!!! All the OKI games are against Sydney Clubs accept the Raiders
game in round 1 which from memory only got 12, 000.....!!!!
And of course some one will come up with the right number.

What about the ANZAC game thats a home match........!!!!!!! Why don't you cry about why it's not played at "OKI"....!!!!

12,635 actually. That one should have been played at WIN but I understand the place was dug up for moto-cross at the time.

So many exclaimations marks.

The Anzac game wasn't at Kogarah. Perhaps next time there's an Anzac or Good Friday home match moved to the SFS, we should take it away from WIN.
How about that Steel-Dragon?

Lots of rainey and cold games at WIN too. Plus when the dragons play at OKI they have on most cases had a good win the week before, not so much the case for WIN.

Talk about your fair weathered friends? Any other excuses? What about the week Ashton Circus came to town?

People in Wollongong simply don't feel the same affinity to the JV that St.George people do. Simple as that.

If they played all their games in Wollongong (and perhaps called themselves the 'Illawarra St.George Dragons' :p ) that would all change and people down here would actually feel like they are our team.

Of course that would be pretty rough for you guys... as I've said all along, JVs are trouble. However, at least you didn't lose your jersey, logo, name = identity.

Yep Anzac game wasn't at kogarh it was at Aussie but it is a Home game.

Yeah I know I got a bit carried away but I'm just over this "St George" VS "Illawarra" stuff like, We want our hooped socks and the old shorts back and they get more home games then us.
I hope the management can work all this out so it's fair for the both fan bases.
But now I'm a big Dragons supporter with a softed spot for the Steelers because that's where I'm from and the team I followed for so many years and I know that's the same with you guy's too with St George.
Hope you guy's come down to WIN if they do play the Final in the Gong and watch the Mighty Dragons kick the crap out of the Panthers or who ever we play in the Finals.

Thanks.

LOL, yeah because us St George supporters had nothing to lose going into the JV. I can guarantee that if the shoe were on the other foot & a team called the Steelers played out of Jubille, parents & Wives would be the only people showing up.

The Steelers had their chance to stand alone but could only manage it for 17 years - they had their "own" team for all that time & failed to support them suffiently to guarantee the survival of their identity. If everyone down there is as indifferent to Saints as you say, maybe we should bring our team HOME!!

Now obviously R2K is pushing their agenda, which is fine, but can't we just get over it?

WIN had "Blockbusters" but it also had the non-drawing games as well.

I don't see how the St. George vs. Illawarra stuff helps. It's not as if there is some conspiracy to screw over St. George fans like me. They had a merger that St. George was the major beneficiary of. St. George retains its identity, like our proud club should. But surely if that means that for a few years a couple more games at Wollongong, surely that is a reasonable compromise.

I understand why you are upset. We love our great club, the St. George club. But compromise has occured and must continue to occur because there is no benefit in a split, devisive club.

Just because Wollongong's attendence might be marginally less then Kogarah's does not mean that Illawarra fans don't care. They do. They care a lot.

I am constantly suprised at the level of support the team gets from Wollongong for what doesn't seem to really be their team. But they do embrace it. To say otherwise would be patently false.

First of all... laying the foundations of a club is made alot more difficult when a recession takes place.

We battled past that and by the 90s everything looked great, we'd become a formidable force (just missing the top 5 in 91, 93, and 94 and winning pre-season 92 and getting to the major final in 92). We had a financial plan for 1992 through to 1996 that was going set the club up for good... unfortunately a thing called Super League came along and stuffed that up and blew the market out.

I can live with you guys dominating with the jersey, logo blah blah... but to ridicule us is wrong. Also, in the same 17 seasons, you only achieved a Cup win the same as us... and you were already well established.

It PISSED down for the Knights an dBroncos games in Wollongong.
The temperature was 7 degrees for the Warriors game.

Pretty good reasons not to go to the footy.

Plus you have to factor in all the "Kogarah" people who refuse to travel to Wollongong for Dragons games.

I base my comments on this...

If it wasnt for 'kogarah' peole the Gong's averages would be down even more. And you cant back it up with any links, just some knob at the club talking to the knob jockey.

WTF!??!
Twonk?

I base this on what I've seen and heard on these and other forums. As well as what I hear from various people who are involved in the club.

2 peabrains asked a question by a f**cknuckle

Judging by the traffic in and out of Wollongong, and by postcode surveys done by the clubm, people from Sydney do travel.

To blame them for Wollongongs inferior record is such a lie that I am surprised that even a blatent troll like yourself can say it with a straight face.

Dead set.
What's your problem Rex?

The traffic problems in Wollongong are the same for a Hawks game where the crowd is 3,000-4,000 people, all from Wollongong.

I never blamed Sydney people not travelling for any "inferior record", just said it was a contributing factor for WIN Stadium crowds being smaller than they should be.

I'm not naming the source. It could get them fired.
All I will say is that a Dragons staff member said it.

LOL, Richo - I'm sure you made a mistake. It's the Sydney fans that do travel.

The "edit" button is up there on the right hand corner of your post, champ.

Cheers,
Ben S.

Simply stating what I heard someone say mate.
It was a Wollongong based person that said it, so maybe they had a slightly biased view of it. I don't know, and I really don't care either way.

Like I said, that's just what I heard from someone who works for the Dragons.

In all seriousness, I hope you guys do well. Rugby League in Wollongong needs a successful team. I just hope my Sharkies can get their act together one day and be successful too.
