IMO Sunday arvo games are prime for WIN, and Fri night games are perfect for Kogarah. Friday night in the gong can get mighty cold with the wind off the ocean, but on a sunny sunday arvo there is no place better than the hill at WIN. The panthers game this year is testament to this.

Also the Newcastle game @ WIN was miserable as all hell. A very dismal showing of fans turned up that day.

Hopefully OKI will get some lightage and an equal # of games next year, god knows im waiting for my 1st Fri night game there!

I agree, Sunday arvos always draw bigger crowds no matter where it is. I wish the NRL would only have one or maybe 2 Saturday night games so there could be more Sunday arvo games each round.

The Steelers had their chance to stand alone but could only manage it for 17 years - they had their "own" team for all that time & failed to support them suffiently to guarantee the survival of their identity. If everyone down there is as indifferent to Saints as you say, maybe we should bring our team HOME!!

Cheers,
Ben S.

For a majority of those 17 seasons the Steelers' average home crowds were bigger than St.George's. 9 seasons to 8. Not bad considering we had to battle through the early years and then be torn apart during Super League.

MOS1982, in that barrage of statisitcs you never refuted that the people of Wollongong are not indifferent to the Dragons. Why did we waste our time merging & then playing the majority of our games at The Fortress if you don't care.

12 games a year at Jubilee will suit me fine.

Cheers,
Ben S.

12 games at WIN would bring back all those who have lost interest and re-ignite the passion, as they would then become 'our' team. It would also help give the 'N' in NRL a bit more credibility.

As for why you merged with us... I've always wondered why we merged with you, losing our identity and only getting half a dozen games or so. Wests and Cronulla wanted to talk to us but Bobby wouldn't even talk with them and couldn't jump into bed with St.G quick enough.

It should of been - your identity + our region.

Knights and Broncs would've been huge if not for it pissing down. Cowboys dont draw neither do Warriors this year. Bulldogs n Panthers had very good crowds(Panthers was aweome atmosphere) and Melbourne had adecent crowd im pretty sure.
Win averages would've been way bigger if knights n broncs wasnt raining basically, the other two games would've got shit crowds no matter what the situation was. The split should be 6/5 plus the anzac day/SCG game(alternate years between home ground eg this year saints v roosters was saints home game, v souths was souths home game, reverse that each year).

All I'm hearing is excuses, GTB.

Besides The Scum, our other three home games this year were Wests Tigers, Canberra & Manly - hardly teams to pull in the punters but the ground was at or near capacity on all occasions.

All that wasted money on the Northern Stand AKA the Frank Arkell Stand - "if you build it, they will come", my arse!!

Cheers,
Ben S.

So you admit Wollongong Fans are Fairweather Friends. Maybe if they went out in the rain their collapsable chairs would rust.

But Jughead, Its a winter sport and for nearly 100 years true fans with any ticker go to the games and cheer on their team.

You are just making excuses because Frank Arkell Stadium gets millions lavished on it, and is upstaged by a poor suburban ground that was finished off by volunteers.

If the it were the Steelers playing at WIN we'd dwarf your St.George crowds at that little old council oval.

Who is "we" ? And OKI is "our" home ground. Part of the JV's collateral.

If you dont like it Mossy, may I respectfully ask you stick to the Tooheys Competition. This JV needs two wings to fly and youre content to fly around and around in circles with just one

Significant numbers of Sydney fans travel down to Wollongong for games, the favour is not returned by Illawarra people.

Not true. Plenty of Wollongong people travel up to Sydney. I know I do, and unless I am imagining all those other people on the train then it cannot be the case that Illawarra people don't travel to Kogarah.

Can we lose the "our" and "your" talk.

For better or worse we are now a merged team. How does it help to continue these devisive us and them arguments?

Comparing WIN and Jubilee crowds is kind of immaterial because the reality is that St. George Illawarra crowds are better then St. George and Illawarra crowds.

Rather then minutia about whether Illawarra or Kogarah fans are more behind the JV we should be celebrating an average home crowd of 15,388 which is a real acheivement in itself.

That’s one way too look at it.

The real kicker though is the aggregate, which is lower. This despite WIN being expanded and having a half decent team playing there for the first time.

Well... you really can't expect the aggregate to be bigger can you? You surely would not expect St. George Illawarra to be pulling in every St. George fan and every Illawarra fan ever.

But it isn't that bad.

Aggregate of Illawarra and St. George home attendence in 1998: 235,703
Aggregate of St. George Illawarra home attendence in 2004: 184,058

Pretty Good Really. Over 3/4 the aggregate.

Cause he knew we'd be easy to screw. ;-)
