BALMAIN skipper Wayne Pearce holds aloft the inaugural Alfa Romeo Chal- lenge Trophy won by the Tigers earlier this season at Parramatta Stadium. Pearce led Balmain to a rousing victory over premiers Canterbury to bring home the $75,000 Challenge Cup.
JAMES Grant was the name on everyone's lips when Balmain took out the second Nissan Sevens rugby league tournament at Parramatta Stadium in March. Grant thrilled the crowd with his scorching sor- ties to nab six tries and spearhead the Tigers to a 12-10 victory over Easts in the final. The former Wallaby proved the find of the series and captured the imagination of the rugby league public with his flair and pace.

NISSAN SEVENS - BALMAIN 20 (G.Freeman 2, B.Elias, M.Neil tries; B.Elias, M.Neil gls) d PENRITH 6 (A.McIndoe try; J.Cartwright gl).

QUARTER FINAL - BALMAIN 18 (J.Grant 2, T.Chalmers, M.Neil tries; J.Grant gl) d CRONULLA 8 (M.Speechley, A.Wilson tries).

SEMI FINAL - BALMAIN 12 (J.Grant 2 tries; B.Elias 2 gls) d SOUTHS 10 (B.Longbottom, M.Ellison tries; G.Lyons gl).

FINAL - BALMAIN 12 (J.Grant 2 tries; B.Elias 2 gls) d EASTS 10 (C.Salvatori, D.French tries; T.Melrose gl).

Will the Winfield Cup be added to the Balmain trophy cabinet this season?
