Old Sharkie Players, WHERE ARE THEY NOW.

(I have also posted this thread on other club sections chasing their old players details)

Gidday Sharkie supporters, from a shark supporter from day No1

I had a request from Shaun Russell from the UK to include a section called "Where are they Now" in my website, Era of the Biff. I have listed over 70 old hard headed tough men or heroes.

Ive just spent the past 11 hours doing the bloody page and now have it up and running.

I have included the following players from the Sharkies.....

Namely

1. Tommy Bishop (the greatest)
2. Cliff Watson
3. Steve Kneen
4. Dane Sorensen
5. Kurt Sorensen
6. Steve Rogers ( But I know what he is doing these days and where he is.

If any one out there can help me with details of what these legends are doing these days and where they live, (town, state only)
then I would greatly appreciate it. Should any of the guys no longer be with us could you tell me when they passed on and if possible what was the cause of their demise.

You can just post the info here if that is okay, or I have a contact email form on the page of my site, which ever suites you.

I invite you all to have a look at my site, maybe I could include some of your memories from the Era of the Biff.

Cheers

Quigs,

I believe Tommy Bishop is living around Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.
Cliffy Watson lives in the Illawarra area, and has done so for many years,
Dane Sorenson still lives in the Sutherland Shire.

Thanks young fellahs,

You young'uns show a bit of respect for an old sharkie supporter of 37 years. Hey remember Ive suffered a lot longer then you blokes.

I type this entry as I look at my 67 sharks jersey and me 73 sharks jersey stuck on me wall. both signed by the one and only Tommy Bishop.

In case Coolum's question wasn't rhetorical it was John McMartin, legendary sharkies hooker from the 70s and tough as guts. Came to us from Parramatta as I recall.

John Slippery Arms McMartin was my all time favorite hooker.

We jagged him from Parra when Parra would not up his money after he won selection in a rep team. I think it might of been NSW but Im not 100%

Hey give me thirty minutes and I'll be back with a surprise.

More on McMartin.

As younguns we went down to Endeavour Oval to watch the Sharks go round. One of my favourites was John Slippery Arms McMartin. We called him Slippery Arms because at the completiton of every scrum McMartin had to drag himself up off the ground, as though he slipped through the props arms.

For years he had the best strike rate for hookers in the comp and was always regarded by his peers as the toughest and best rake in the game.

I remember being positioned at the small hill at the northern end of Endeavour. I watch in amazement as Slippery just shuffled as fast as he could right up the centre of ground as the likes of Rogers and co were weaving their magic up the western side of the ground. They were running towards the southern endof the ground. All of a sudden the play swept back inside and I think it was Rogers had only the fullback to beat. Instead of stepping the fullback he simply passed the ball inside to the shuffling McMartin who had not changed speed but happend to arrive in the right spot at the right time. He scored near the posts.

Hi yah Sheros,

Im typing under duress here, too many red wines.

Yeah great front row indeed, You want to know the meaning of determination, just have a geek at Danes head.

Can't say I remember him as a kicker though. Heres one from left field. I played a bit of junior league for Sylvania in the dark old days.... there was a guy in the grade above me called one Steve Kneen, now in those days "HE" could kick a goal. He never carried it on as he proceeded up in the grades through the Sharks to the Roos....

Okay the meaning of this thread is "where are they now"

I think I read somewhere, now I left the big lights of the Sutho Shire in 1978, that Kneen ended up capt/coaching at Helensburgh...... any ideas people...

(and the bloody Dogs got us again) I know what it is like dealing with wind. Ive had that problem for years.

Cheers
