Having said the above, I still firmly believe Shane Richardson, started the rot and the current management team are not entirely to blame for this mess.

I agree with that too.

I also blindly complimented management for retaining most of our Grand final side. :( It sucks trusting management to do what is right for the club, players and fans.

I did too, but we didn't know how much they were throwing at the players. It appears now that it must have been much more than any of us would have estimated.
I wouldn't mind seeing the salary cap auditor's report for this club..

I think we over estimated the ability of some players after 2003. Which to be honest wasn't all that unreasonable as for most of them 2003 was their first year in first grade and we had not much else to base their assessment on.

Personally I'd have alot more respect for management at this very moment if they'd come out said "hey we stuffed up we'd like to negotiate some pay cuts and if we can't we'll be letting some of you go."

Look, if in the event that we do lose Ross (which is pretty much a fait accompli), then I hope that we keep players like Crossman, Wrigley and Matt Cross. That way, we can at least attempt to cover the massive hole Ross' deaprture will leave.

Ross is gone. Penrith have released him. They're just not calling it a release for the simple reason if they "release" him they have to pay his contract out. That comes out of our salary cap. It would defeat the purpose of releasing him.

I was just chatting to Kate and i was telling her how i thought the pay structure should work. I think the NRL should lay down payment plan for positions. Each club should follow the payment plan to stay within the Salary Cap set out.

I get sick of hearing rumours of infighting between players and the last one i just heard/read was over pays. Now my thoughts would stop all that and increase player incentives.

So here's my thoughts on how it should be run ...

*Set amount for each position.

*Extra amount for Captain.

*Extra amount for Club Loyalties which could be set out in a tiered structure over years.

*Match Bonuses to players who performed at an elite level for that round. That to be determined through video footage and game statistics after the game has been played.

*Representation bonuses - players who represent are given a set amount of bonus for each rep game they play.

That would stop infighting over pays. It would increase player incentive. It wouldn't be for money that a player would leave a club it would be through their own individual personalities. And by that I mean to benefit their own self in their playing level by seeking the coach they best perform under, climate, enjoyment, club's structure in regard to training facities, training techniques etc.

What have I missed? Does anyone think that could work?

Other payment methods would not work because the players just would not accept it.

EVER!

NEVER EVER!

The system we have now works fine. Look at the Broncos, Roosters, Bulldogs and Storm and how they managed their teams.

Penrith are the perfect argument for salary cap concessions to local juniors. The management has used to much of the cap on a few players, but why is it that we have to be punished for having so many players develop quickly at the same time? It makes it difficult to buy anyone.

I'm not a fan of the $3.25 salary cap :x

The NRL is working on a junior development fee structure where if one club buys another club's junior they have to pay some kind of fee. No idea on details though. I'm hoping the fee gets added onto the club losing the player's salary cap but unlikely probably.

Did anyone see the article in the Sunday Telegraph, where John lang said if we released Joe and Ben we still would not be able to afford a quality back. What a load of sh*t, where does all our money go?

Yep, I saw that and Cainen put up a scanned version of it for everyone else to see somewhere in our section. So many questions to ask....

Stupid overpaying management is the answer to all questions.

Some times you have to take risks and put players on the open market.

for instance...with Chad Randell....he went to open market because he didn't like Manly's offer...noone wanted him or wanted to pay him less that Manly were offering, manly got him at a respectable price, not paying overs.

Same is happening with the Tigers and Ben Galea. TIgers have fielded an offer to him, and he said he was worth more. If he goes...he goes...its a risk you have to take.

Who seriously here thinks another club would want to sign Danny Galea or Luke Swain after June 30? We paid overs for them and now we are stuck paying them big wages because the management were scared. There is plenty of talent out there, and if these two left at the time of re-signing, then we could have replaced them. You retain the core players in your team and those that arn't really needed but are there to lend a hand...that can be replaced....you wait.
