On the town with the Dogs

THESE are the exclusive photos that prove rugby league's bad boys, the Canterbury Bulldogs, are still boozing and running wild at Kings Cross nightclubs.
In the space of 48 hours last weekend, an expensive digital camera was smashed, players were thrown out of the Sapphire Suite, and later refused entry at nearby Dragonfly.
Exclusive CCTV footage passed on to The Sunday Telegraph shows a drunken Reni Maitua in a fiery exchange with security staff at the front door of Dragonfly, a trendy Kings Cross nightclub.
The Bulldogs lock was dragged away by team-mate Sonny Bill Williams, with witnesses saying it was only the big Kiwi's intervention that stopped the situation from becoming seriously ugly.
Maitua - wearing a Bra Boys My Brother's Keeper-branded T-shirt - was earlier thrown out of the Sapphire Suite, where he was drinking with Williams and Bulldogs centre Daryl Millard at about 1am on Monday.
Sapphire Suite bouncers immediately notified other nearby clubs that the Dogs were on the loose, prompting the altercation with Dragonfly bouncers when the players were denied entry.
"Reni was blind drunk and was rude to the bouncers, who showed great restraint,'' a witness told us. "Sonny Bill did the right thing and dragged him away. He practically wrestled him all the way up the street and tried to bale him into a taxi.''
Maitua had started early that Sunday, clocking on for first drinks at the Clovelly Hotel mid-afternoon. He has become a serial offender and was dumped from first grade only a month ago for missing training after a big night out.
The Test utility had been banned from the Dragonfly club just a few months earlier. Williams had his own issues last weekend, snatching a freelance photographer's camera and smashing it on the ground the night before Maitua's petulant display.
It has taken some time, but the Bulldogs players have finally conceded they have a problem, deciding to make the Kings Cross nightclubs a no-go zone for the rest of the season.
Chief executive Malcolm Noad told us yesterday that the players held a team meeting on Tuesday as a result of the latest incidents.
"I'd rather they all stay out of the nightclubs at the Cross, and that's what they've agreed to,'' Noad said. "It's just a recipe for disaster. They realise no good publicity comes out of nightclubs.
"The players had a team meeting about it this week. They've all agreed this isn't a good look and they're better off staying away from those sort of places.''
After a sluggish start to the season, the Bulldogs have put themselves in the premiership mix and the last thing they need is more bad publicity.
Maitua, in particular, is becoming a worry for club officials. He put himself on a month-long booze ban after being dropped from first grade but obviously still has issues on the drink.
Maitua was out again on Tuesday, this time at the Christina Aguilera concert at the Acer Arena, next to Telstra Stadium.
As for Williams, it's a shame the champion forward keeps finding himself in these situations. He also swore off the grog after the Candice Falzon incident at the Clovelly Hotel, but we can only wonder why he continues to be out in Kings Cross with drunken team-mates - and not at home with his loyal girlfriend.

Who hasn't ever been refused entry to a club? Probably the most BS story they have come up with yet.

Go to club, oops we can't get in, come on security I've only had a few, no mate you gotta go, okay let's go.

And at least they didn't drive home drunk, right Rebecca? Oh wait...

Being a Bulldogs fan is so much fun. We get to watch the team pull a victory out of their arse, and then read the Telegraph pull a story out of their arse the next morning. Stirring and hilarious!

I'm an EELS man through and through and I hate the Dogs as much as any eels fan!! However, it sh*ts me endlessly that the Telecrap is so baised against 1 club - the Dogs!! This is muck-rucking journalism at its worst.

Sure it is not the smartest place to be seen, but these guys should be allowed to go out and have a few beers like any other member of society. Wow - they were not allowed in a nightclub, big bloody deal!!

It just shows how little real sporting news these 2 idiots (Bec and Buzz) actually cover in there column. Maybe they should get a start with New Idea or Woman's Day or one of those other gossip mags. Cause when most people turn to the sports section of a newspaper they get sick of reading the crap dished up by these 2 imbosiles!!

Jesus, they're just people -- if they want to go out for a drink, how is it any different from anybody else doing so? Why is it reported in a newspaper? There's clearly no "incident" here...

So is this a pack of lies? If so does Maitua have some legal recourse?

As for the story itself.... good on the Tele for doing a service to society and telling us all some footy players went to a club or two.

:sarcasm:
