Bit of a wag in the Lankan tail got them 20 or so more runs than I’d anticipated- not that it really made for an imposing total. Conway and Ravindra over a quarter of the way there in 7 overs without loss.

I hated at the time how our fielders were chuckling and laughing at the dumb DRS review and a few other things - they totally lost their intensity and hence the tail wagged big time for Sri Lanka. They acted as if the job was done after 8 wickets were down. Lucky no rain etc, but it was a bad sign. Lack of intensity for the whole game against India won't be a problem though...

The Pakis shattered a couple of our world cup dreams - when we had gun sides - in 1983 and 1992.

It's still possible but highly unlikely this time.

Bring on India!

Yeah they’re our World Cup bogey side.

Geez I wish people on this side of the world would quit using “paki” though…. it’s pretty much on the same level as “aborigine” or n****r.

I stopped using 'Pakis' in about 1993 when I felt it stopped being a shortened version of the Pakistan national cricket team - like the 'Windies', 'Aussies', 'Poms' and 'Kiwis' - and took on the general derogatory UK connotation of a racial/cultural slur to all people from the Sub-Continent.

But just yesterday I was thinking Australia/NZ is not the UK. Using the term 'Pakis' (I never used 'Paki' singular, and I never heard it used to describe a single player) to describe their cricket team, as a loose turn of phrase, and in the unique context of our cricket vernacular, was OK again.

Sure it’s not the UK and I know people here don’t use it in that way- but I’m still too familiar with that sense of the word not to wince when I hear it. At the end of the day it’s not term you ever hear Pakistanis use to refer to themselves.

I haven't confirmed (a fateful mistake!) but last night I saw England were 50 without loss, batting first. I knew Pakistan needed to win by 290 runs in order to sneak into the semis. But how would they do that batting second?

So, it's India v NZ and SA v Aust. Two tremendous games in prospect. If we beat India it'll be another famous win. If we beat either SA or Aust it'll be our most famous.

I think once they bowled it was pretty much done, England won easily anyway

India look easily the best team, but the best team doesn’t always win…. RSA definitely flakey but also brilliant, Aust winning but not inspiring confidence, we’re losing while inspiring confidence… weird

Henry a big loss imo, but we’ll fight hard, but their attack is relentless, just astonishingly good, think that’s their big advantage tbh

When you think about it we’ve done bloody well so far.
captain and GOAT batsman out for 6/9 games, best strike bowler injured, other pace bowlers in and out of the side with injuries. But we still beat all the lower ranked teams convincingly, got Duckworthed against Pakistan, pushed Australia til the last over and gave India their biggest test of the pool stages. Only the SA game where we underperformed and I’m inclined to think we mainly f**ked that up by putting them in to bat first.

100%. If Henry was available I’d really like our chances, aside from India who’ve been next level we’ve been consistently good

On the flat tracks I’d probably consider Henry to be fodder, I think we might be better off with Southee, and I probably have more confidence in him than Boult these days

Pre tournament I gave us no hope at all of semis so a pleasant surprise, I don’t hold out much hope for the semi. Outside of game 1 Conway has been quiet, he is well overdue and let’s hope a special one is coming. Still have concern about the overs we need to get out of Ravindra and co

On a side note, I’m appalled at NZCs handling of the Henry Nicholls ball tampering, it was as blatant as I have seen and their reasoning for taking no action is ridiculous

think you're being a bit harsh on Boult and Henry there - anyway, I like our team a lot, but India top to bottom are just better than everyone, doesn't mean they'll win, but hard to see anyone beating them...

Yeah, Nicholls was interesting to say the least

I so want you win.

Zoom Stacey for a speech, whatever it takes.

f**k India.

If we lose to the Saffas, I care less than you beating India.

Carn Kiwis, win the lot

another creditable loss, pushed them, but ultimately not there.

We're such a gutsy cricket side. Boult and Southee were mauled badly, 186 off 20 overs. That's probably the game right there.

Our dream lives on. Bring on South Africa/Zimbabwe 2027. We'll have a different team for sure, our guys this year were aging fast.

Glory be to Aussie! A surprising world cup win.

It was a great tournament, I hope it'll be back in 2027 in SA/Zimbo. I think it will, as there were 125,000+ in the stadium last night. Would you get that much for a T20 WC Final? Who won the last T20 WC? Let alone the first one?

I saw a stat last night, two Kiwis - Ravindra and Mitchell - were in the top-five tournament run-getters. No wonder we made the semis.
