If Joel Thomson was still here, he would have still been our secondrower and Sims would still be on the bench coming on playing in the middle and Lucky may have seen less footy too. Letting Thompson go was a master stroke on Millward's part, because Mary wasn't going to be making any changes unless forced too.

Mary's masterstrokes have all been forced on him, Dugan getting injured and Dufty getting his chance. Thompson moving to Manly and Sims getting his chance and now Lomax getting his chance at the expense of Aitken getting injured. I could also add Merrin going to Penrith and giving DeBelin a chance to take the starting lock position. Even Vaughan getting injured has given Lucky more of a chance too.

Lucky could very well push Frizell to the prop rotation next year? He is really starting to look like he belongs in first grade and he looks to be a very exciting prospect. We already have a great pack, but Lucky has the potential to be the best of the lot of them. Whether he lives up to that potential, only time will tell. The first thing I would say to Lucky is, does he want to live up to that potential? Once he knows that he "wants" it, that is the first step. The next step is does he believe he can live up to that potential?

Fair assessment there, FF.

Definitely Thompson going opened the door for Sims to own the position.
Same again with Merrin going and JBD taking over.
I still think JBD can become more consistent. Not every tackle has to be a burial.
I think Lucky has come on well but is still some ways off being totally committed. I was going to say lazy but l think, committed is a better analyse. If ever there was a time for him to step up, its now.

On Sunday, I was very impressed with the way Lucky played when he came on. He wasn't trying to be fancy and skillful. His runs were very strong, he was making great yardage. He looked pretty committed to me. He also looks like he has pride in the St George jersey. The fact that he lost the weight that he did over the last off season, says to me that he is committed and prepared to do what it takes to live up to his immense potential. I still think his future may lie at prop. The way he was running running the ball on Sunday, indicates to me that he could have what it takes to become a top line prop in the future. He could also become a top line secondrower, but I believe that he will probably be better defending in the middle. Lucky has the potential to become a Fifita type prop forward. I currently rate Fifita the number 1 prop in the game.

Seems wrong that a players new team get penalised for a for a breach from a previous club & year.
That’s what I was thinking, it’s like sighning Montoya from the Dogs and him having to serve the penalty from getting his junk out in public with us.

Still, he will be even more fired up when he returns, especially with his brother in his ear during the off season.

I'd say the team played without a 'plan' and the players played what was in front of them. One of the most enjoyable games of the year for me.
