Only 1 Wests Tigers player would have been picked in Ricky's Kangaroo camp.

Good point on the Wests Kiwis. However, if the average Saints PL forward can get a gong, a lot more clubs than Wests have the right to fire up.

Sort of like the Roosters in 2002...

nah the roosters also needed the NRL to take 37 competition points off the best team in the comp for the Roosters to win in 2002 !

this is a nothing thread. How many of the players in the named squad will make the Australian team. I find it stupid that Sheens would come out with a statement like that. I am sure Stuart rung him up and said "Sorry Sheensy your team is sh*t and only one would have made it".

I don't think so. News about ruby league must be quiet if your gullible enough to believe that crap...

Vlad get over it - couldn't care what happenned in 2002 - it is past history and it was still to be seen who would have won the g/f even if the dogs were in the comp...the NRL didn't rort - the bulldogs did.

Can I remind you of some odds on favourites to win g/f's and lose? Parramatta in 2001 for a start, Parramatta odds on to make the g/f last year - failed....so just read the history books and you will see Roosters 2002 Premiers

Nobody said he heard from Stuart...only you are saying that and yes it would be unlikely.

I tend to agree with cockadoodledoo....Sheens pulling a swifty & calling stickys bluff - puts the ball in Rickys court so to speak, but who knows?

I'm no fan of Stuart but, in fairness, here is his reply:
http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,17973826-23214,00.html

AUSTRALIA coach Ricky Stuart hit back at claims from Tim Sheens today that only one Wests Tigers player had been considered for the Kangaroos squad.

Premiership-winning coach Sheens slammed the Australian Rugby League for failing to let him know where his players stood on the representative scene.

Sheens told radio station Triple M he had heard a rumour that only one Tigers player was considered for the 44-man national squad which went into camp in Bondi this weekend.

"No one from the ARL has bothered to ring me and say we didn't name you but this bloke, this bloke and this bloke were considered," Sheens said.

"It would've been nice to have publicly known from my players' point of view just where they stood.

"It's interesting that Brisbane players weren't considered but were named. My quip was that there was only one (Tiger considered)."

While the ARL signalled out several players, including Andrew Johns and Darren Lockyer, who were excused from the camp because of prior commitments, it did not individually name Wests Tigers players who were pardoned.

Stuart said he thought he was doing the right thing by the Tigers, who played a trial match in the NSW town of Gunnedah on Friday night.

The Tigers fly out to England tonight to prepare for their World Club Challenge match against Bradford on Saturday morning (AEDT).

Stuart said ARL boss Geoff Carr had explained the situation to both Wests recruitment manager Warren McDonnell and chief executive Steve Noyce.

"There were Tigers players considered," Stuart retorted. "I don't know how many times Tim Sheens has to be told. He's obviously not being told by his staff but there were Tigers players considered and selected."

"I thought I was doing the right thing by not inviting them into camp because they had a trial match in Gunnedah on Friday night. I also wanted to give them the best opportunity to prepare for the World Club Challenge."

"I've been there and done it and you don't need any offside distractions in regards to their preparation for the challenge in England."

Meanwhile, Stuart said he was pleased that rugby league Immortals Reg Gasnier, Johnny Raper and Graeme Langlands had chattered informally to the Kangaroos at a barbecue last night

"They spoke about the enjoyment they had on tours, the enjoyment they had playing for their country," said the Sydney Roosters mentor. They spoke briefly about the tradition of the Australian jersey. Chook (Raper) was very good. He's a very passionate and emotional person, Johnny Raper, and it was nice to hear from him."

Stuart has previously stated he wants to instil pride and passion back into the Australian jersey.

"There's pride in any national jersey," he said today. It's just a matter of how much you've got and how much you respect your position. With the Immortals, I just think it's important that players know a little bit about the history of the game. They were extremely great players of their time so it was nice to have them in our company."

I just dont get it....he names the other blokes that couldnt make it,but not the tigers.

I dont see how seeing that you are in the mix for the OZ team would take yer mind off yer performance,if anything, you would be keener as you would be closer to getting a rep jumper.....sounds like BS to me.

This whole thing stinks IMO......

I don't have any complaints with stuart not naming players from the WT's.I think
he did it in the best interest of the WT's.Right or wrong doesn't matter.

Just think he should have said at the start, that he'll name the WT's players that
were selected after they play the WCC.Sheen's wouldn't have said a word IMO.

I agree

I was only responding to the halfwit roosters supporter who implied that the Tigers were lucky to win last year .

Anyone who can't see that they played great footy and have a very talented bunch of young players is taking driving directions from Stevie Wonder .

agreed on that front, but just cause simms got in on next to no reason doesnt mean others should... two wrongs dont make a right as they say

id have had:
Skando in for Ashton Simms
Hodgo in for Ryan Cross
Farah in for Dean Young
Prince in for Tim Smith

outside that i think its just about right
i agree with all except for Prince for T Smith , that kid is going to be something special. You have to give players a go or else they become stale. SIMMS give me a break...

The ARL said in a media release that no Tigers players were considered because of the team's World Club Challenge commitments, with the Tigers playing a trial match in Gunnedah on Friday night and flying to England on Sunday.

If other players like Johns and Locky were named despite prior commitments then the Tigers players should have been named in the same list of those with prior commitments.

Obvious stuff up by Stuart.

Followed closely by Sticky spin.
