Surprised this isn't a 5 game series :sarcasm:

In all honesty good to see a minnow get a ODI gig. Good luck to the Scots which is essentially our warm up game for the ODIs vs the poms

Indeed cause they need all the exposure they can get. Just as England will be playing a match against Ireland.

Excellent. I remember on the last Ashes tour we played an ODI against them and it was not covered.

Mr Teeny dropped and Starkers with lower back problems both going home.

And no, lets not swap Ireland for Zimbabwe. Bring Ireland in as well and let Zim sort out their problems while still at the elite level. They're not uncompetitive.

Their players haven't been paid in months and their better players - Ballance, Jarvis - can't get out fast enough.

I'm a huge fan of as many nations as possible getting to the top tier of international cricket. But the whinge-a-thon that goes on about their being 'too much cricket' from the players of the world means I think a nation like Ireland is being impeded by the basket case that is Zimbabwe at the moment.

Hopefully over the next few years they'll make a case so compelling the ICC won't be able to deny them.

They've set precedents in the past regarding what's required. If Ireland meet those standards the ICC will have to let them in or the Irish would have a pretty open and shut case legally.

There's a really interesting article on Cricinfo at the moment about how English cricket has basically stonewalled Irish cricket for the last few years as they like having the northern summer to themselves television wise. I was shocked when I read it, I had thought that the ECB would be a driving force behind cricket in Irealnd.

Thats the annoying thing about the "big 4" concept of world cricket, the top 4 teams tend to play each other, and the other 5 test status nations dont play them that much. Also playing minnows would build on cricket's status as a world sport rather than arrogant antiquated British Imperialism (case in point, why is England the only European based entity with Test match playing status?)

The big 4 = Aus, Eng, SAf and India

The rest= Pak, NZ, WI, SL, (Zim, Bang)

Pakistan is a force, but neutrals can see Islamaphobia with how little cricket they play. When was the last time Pakistan played against India? Nobody plays in Pakistan, Pakistan has not played in Australia for how long?

West Indies cricket has slipped away because of some odd obsession to perpetuate a frivolous Australia v England cricket rivalry? (the only sports rivalry between England and Australia) West Indies were one of "the big boys" of cricket once too

Earlier this year actually, but I do see your point.

Certain cricket boards pad their calender with whatever suits them financially (India vs Sri Lanka, Australia vs England are the two prime examples) while the other tours get short changed with only two tests or none at all for a long time.

There is way too much domestic T20 that is cutting short a lot of international fixtures and creating the "player fatigue". West Indian cricket is blowing itself up with their keen interest in T20 but nothing else, they were abysmal when they toured Australia.

Agree with an earlier comment that Ireland are the team being hampered the most with a lack of international games, test status and players running off to England. With some support they'd end up somewhere between 5-8 in a few short years.

Well they're aiming to get the domestic cricket into a full fledge first class structure by 2015, so if they can do that with England keeping their grubby hands off their player's they should have a strong case for inclusion.

They should be playing unofficial test matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe to see where they're at as they have been dominating ICC Intercontinental Cup.

The Foxtel EPG does not show this game.

The CA website has also been changed and no broadcaster is listed.

Can't find any evidence it will be streamed or any sign of radio coverage either.

They showed the Ireland match, yes.

Last Ashes tour we played Scotland in an ODI and it wasn't televised either.

Australia vs England

In many ways if this was a political context, Australia v England is "the perpetuation of the two party system in a democratic process"

Perpetuated how? Two teams have undermined the remaining contests for the sake of 1 rivalry, in laymen's terms: Australia v England - The Ashes is cricket

In a political context? Neither political party is that great to be frankly honest, but youre sure as hell not nominating any other cricket countries or series to be above the Ashes

Cricket was much better (growing up) in the 80s and 90s when there was a whole bunch of strong or competitive teams! With Australia coming out on top of course :D

It shits me that Australia believes the Frank Worrell trophy to be an unnecessary chore as cricket has become a watered down sport to society in that part of the world. Or a frivolous minor series compared to playing against England for Australia. There are denyists saying 'we play each opponent for what they're worth' but that's bullshit, nobody's that stupid to believe that.

To argue the previous point in a 'social' context - its like a guy who has a girlfriend, but goes out with her to a party with ulterior motives to get someone new and better. With scant disregard for the incumbent
