BARRY RUSHWORTH INDUCTED INTO EELS HALL OF FAME
9 August 2007
The Parramatta National Rugby League Club is pleased to announce that Barry Rushworth has been inducted into the Parramatta Eels Hall of Fame at the annual Players and Officials Reunion at the Parramatta Leagues Club.
Originally from Lithgow, Barry played 148 First Grade games for Parramatta, making his First Grade debut in 1964. He toured with the 1963/64 Kangaroos and played a Test Match against France in 1964.
This is a great honour and I am really excited by it. This Club has produced so many great players and to be listed amongst them is just fantastic. My playing days at Parramatta were so special to me and I made lifelong friends, Rushworth said.
Rushworths photograph has been placed in the Hall of Fame outside the Wentworth Room at Parramatta Leagues Club, and it sits alongside other members Ken Thornett, Neville Glover, Steve Ella, Michael Cronin, Eric Grothe, Brett Kenny, Peter Sterling, Ray Price, Dick Thornett, Peter Wynn, Dean Pay, Steven Edge, Bob OReilly, Jack Gibson, Ron Lynch, Billy Rayner, Brian Hambly and Ron Hilditch.
The Reunion also honoured player Nathan Hindmarsh, who in the past year played his 200th First Grade match for the Club, and PJ Marsh who recently celebrated his 100th First Grade match for Parramatta.
To commemorate the Clubs 60th anniversary, leading Rugby League statistician David Middleton of League Information Services was commissioned to research and provide each player with a number according to their appearance in First Grade. This list (which accompanies this release) stretches from Bob Andrews from the 1947 team to the 697th player, Weller Hauraki. Each player was presented with a numbered tie and key ring set to celebrate their place in the history of the Parramatta Club.
