Why are you blaming the board?

If things are the same as they were at Parra then Smith is entirely in charge of who stays and who goes.

the board appointed him, and let him go to England....

and have overseen the reign of terror, sorry, hagan....

"Let" him go to England? I don't think that the board would have any grounds to stop him going to England- he wasn't contracted with the Knights and had no obligations to us. They might have had reservations about Smith going to England, but there wasn't really anything they could do about it.

Of course the board are responsible, they provide oversight on behalf of the members therefore they must review the performance of the club as a whole and make the necessary changes as required.

The board is the only part of the system that is required to listen to the members, because we elect them, not the management.

Therefore the boards oversight must be in the best interests of the members not the management, but its questionable whether the board has exercised enough oversight into the performance of the management over the last few years.

I'm expecting the big announcement soon. "Knights sign Adam McDougall to three year $750.000.00 deal" That's the sort of stuff we are dished up every year.

Unfortunately you may be right, it would be panic stations over there at the moment.

Lets chronicle the performance thus far.

5 first graders definitely leaving.
Gidley allowed to leave without a suitable replacement signed - against the initial promises of club officials
Promising PL players wanting a release.
Unable to sign the clubs only off contract elite player.
Not a single signing announcement as at the 13th of July.
No quality players left, only hacks and has beens.
Proported salary cap pressures in a team that contains only two true quality players i.e justifying elite salaries.

Just to refresh the memories, we also lost 5 players last year and signed a PL centre and Thaiday.

Its quite a record of achievement that Conway and Crowe are building up!

makes you want to go up to them and shake some sense into them. it can not be that hard to sign players. the loyalty thing has been moved from 10yrs to 8 years and cap has increased. 5 first graders are definitely leaving... so we do have money to buy players

I don't want to shake anyone. I'd just like a rational explaination on how we find ourselves in this position?

It beggars belief that we can be short of money based on the team we have currently contracted and theres no explaination for not signing players other than apathy or incompetence.

We cannot be short of money, we went for Lyon and missed out, where's the money that was available for him? I'm starting to believe the retention/recruitment people in the club are just downright incompetent. No professional in a job would perform the way these guys do, they have to be rank amateurs.

Considering this same situation plays itself out year after year im a little surprised how disgusted i am with the Knights club at the moment. We should all be used to not signing any high profile players as the last time i recall signing anyone of note was Ben Kennedy all those years ago.

However even experiencing years of the same old story does not make things any better. Once again i am disgusted with the incompetence shown by our recruitment team (read: Steve Crowe). How on earth we manage to sign not one single FG player by now is a disgrace and if our club demands any accountability then Crowe should be made to perform or be shown the door.

I know its typical of the Knights to give ex-players jobs at the club, but does Steve Crowe have any qualifications to do this job?

I wait with baited breath for the one 'major' signing our super recruitment team announces for next season. Sure, we have plenty of quality in our Junior ranks but how does that assist our 07 season? Even Brad Tighe wants out so how can the "we are concentrating on retaining all our good juniors" excuse hold up?

This club's board is so arrogant it makes them look like right geese. No wonder Michael Hill left. He only helped build the club for christ's sake. Fancy letting players go so u can speculatively sign Jamie Lyon. We are in deep sh*te at the moment and will do well to avoid the spoon next year.

I sent this to Mike Tyler on Monday also, no answer from either.

Geez they must be busy over there!!

Oh I forgot, they are flat out signing players aren't they!

How many have you signed today Ken and Steve?

Day 12 and no answers from either Tyler or Conway.

No surprises there.

Well done to both on the strong showing in this years player trading period.

Its a credit to the club on the way we've allowed our talent to be spread around, never let it be said that Newcastle is not committed to helping the other clubs, the way we discard talent each year is a nice touch.

We can feel good about ourselves and if by chance next year we don't go so well due to a lack of talent, take heart in the fact that we have atleast built up Melbourne, Titans, and the ESL.

very good letter, they don't know how frustrating it is to sit here and watch other clubs sign players like Nate Myles, Frank Pritchard, Jake Webster and Jamie Lyon, players who we could really do with in our side. :x
