Will The Orchids Be Blossoming?
Mon Nov 24, 4:33pm (NSW)
Written by: Singapore Rugby League
The Singapore Rugby League are leaning towards calling the national team the Orchids. Although it is not official "The Orchids" would be quite fitting. Orchids are the national flower of Singapore.

There were other names brought up but "Orchids" seemed more appropriate. We would like to get some feedback on what people think and how well this name will be excepted. If you think this name is suitable please contact the Singapore Rugby League via email at [email protected] and let us know.

Alternatively, if you think another name would be better, please don't hesitate to suggest the name to us. Thankyou.

surely they could think up something a little more threatening!!!!

The national animal of singapore is the lion i think, but that is already taken.
Flowers were used for the original soccer sides in the newcastle area, and two of the oldest soccer clubs in auastralia that still operate are the Adamstown rosebuds and the Edgeworth Bluebells.

Not to mention the defunct Newcastle Wildfires union team. Actually I was always curious about the Bluebells name, because when I lived in Edgeworth for close to a decade I sure as hell didn't see any flowers fitting the description.
