i thought gf = grand final????

Although its been a while since the raiders have had to even think about one of them, mayb the translation has changed down there

gf gf gf = what you say to your girlfriend when she stars nagging in the middle of the grand final.

I'm not worried about his comments on football..He can think what he likes, as he is entitled to.
Just find it disturbing that he can post a comment wishing everyone gets a painful cancer. If that is not offensive or in bad taste I do not know what is.
Surely there has to be some limit on what is posted on a sporting forum???? If not THERE SHOULD BE..
Everyone in this forum has been touched in some way by TERMINAL and PAINFUL Cancer..Everyone would know someone who has passed away from it.
It was not a throw a way line. It was a DELIBERATE and PREMEDITATED post, and I find it personally offensive, and not in the least bit funny...Should be deleted...

I'd have to totally agree with you there pete i've lost three family members to cancer and the post irrespective of it's intention was abhorrent.

Nah, it can stand for both....

BTW..The Raiders have three premierships and 18 finals appearances since the Eels last won a title..

Two points
1. That my friend is called “gamblers fallacy” (look that up!) Just because they trend down one year, doesn’t mean they will trend up the next year

Once again you fail to understand something you've heard of.

'Gambler's fallacy' is the mistaken belief that probabilities varying from the average will tend to even themselves out. Saying that players will perform better after a poor year and worse after a good year might appear to be gambler's fallacy to the dim-witted, but such is not the case.

Gambler's fallacy would be if somebody predicted players to have an above average season after having a below average season - the fallacy being that the deviation from average would lead to increased likelihood of deviation in the other direction. However I didn't predict that our poorly-performing players would have better-than-average seasons next year; I predicted they would have average seasons (the law of averages says that they will tend every year to have an average season). Which is why I said they will play better next year than this year.

Regardless of how they went the season before, players will tend to have an average season the next year. That's how the law of averages works. What this means (and why you confused my prediction with gambler's fallacy) is that if a player has a poor season, he will tend to have a better season the next year because an average season is better than a poor one.

Note this is in no way a prediction of a better-than-average season; it is a prediction of an average season, which happens to be better than a poor season, and worse than a good season.

Do you see where you went wrong?

What a terrible thing to wish upon people because they do not agree with your views on football.

It's got nothing to do with people disagreeing with me.

I said it in a show of mock petulance because a couple of people paid me out for my epic post.

I'm sorry you've lost somebody but you have to realise some people live different lives to you and have developed different ways of coping with the horrors of life, and sometimes that results in gallows humour.

For your own sake you need to relax and take everything with a grain of salt. Alternatively you could just f**k off.

People are different for a reason mate, perspectives exist to differ and contradict each other.
You understand what it's like to lose an important one through cancer and thus you dislike anything related to the topic, fair enough.
I've experienced it, however I have a realistic perspective on it, i.e. Acceptance. Means that personally, I'm entitled to accept jokes about cancer.
Just because you don't appreciate jokes about cancer because of your own personal history/background doesn't mean you should impart your own ego to everyone else because of that.

It's fair game for anyone to crack a little sledge about anything even if they don't truly understand it, that's just how the human mind works.

To err is human, to forgive, divine.

Allowing a post wishing cancer on forum members must be a moderation example of standing up for people's right to have an opinion...? A right which strangely doesn't apply thought when it's a personal opinion regarding the "politics" of the Parramatta Board elections. :?

*edit quoted post deleted*. :?

The site has to protect itself legally bartman. That means slanderous opinions need to be f**ked right off.

On the other hand you can say what you like about me because I'm not a real person and therefore unable to be a victim of slander.

Two entirely different subject Bart. You know that.

Poupou is an idiot and he's after reactions. He generally runs away when intelligent replies are posted.

The best way to deal with dopes is to not fall for the shock value and allow their posts to stand as a testament to their own stupidity.

You know we are both in favour of free speech Bart. Remember the Steve Irwin episodes? ;-)

FTR, I have lost family members to cancer as well. I'm sure many people here have. It's not a joking matter imo. But silly comments on an internet forum don't compare to any of that. Real life is a bigger event.

It's simple to me Willow - if Poupou's cancer post is allowed to stand, then posts criticising that post (through arguing their right to stay vis a vis the guidelines) should also not be deleted... obviously someone disagrees with me about that aspect of free speech .

I remember a time where garbage posts like Poupou's cancer wish were swiftly dumped to (or restricted to) the The Fight Club and/or 4 Corners (or in the Eels Forum we have the Swamp) where the conversation could continue.

It was done as an example for the type of vibe the forums were trying to promote. Personally, in my opinion, the forums were better and more inviting and inclusive in those days - if I'm allowed to post an opinion on that in response? ;-)

From what I understand, forums can get closed down or face legal action in certain situations bartman, if moderators have to remove such posts for legal reasons so be it. There's no point whingeing about.

Mate you're the biggest f**king stirrer on this board.

You think changing the subject with some inane comment constitutes an "intelligent reply"? Get over yourself.

And stop stalking me or I'll report you to a mod.

You know I think the world of you Bart, I'd support you if I thought you were on the money. But as you know, I am privy to more behind the scenes. Trust me when I say it's chalk and cheese.

IMO, it is a little unsettling that anyone would use cancer to push some political agenda. I sincerely hope that is not the case here.

There has been much worse posted over the years, and you used to champion the right to post, regardless of the bad taste. Posters like Poupou are a dime a dozen. I say ignore it.

Fair enough Willow, I've done my duty as a member and reported a post I thought crossed a line, and I've had a say on the matter (that's been allowed to stand in the thread as a record), so I'm happy enough ;-).

Just one point of clarification on your post above, before I let it go - I've championed the right to post bad taste only in the small forums designed for and carrying warnings in that vein. That accurately covers any reference to Steve Irwin or other examples.

I've never championed the right to post offensive crap like Poupou's in more general populated forums like club forums and NRL forum. People (not just you reading the posts above) seem to be focussing more on the "chalk and cheese" example I gave and legalities etc, when I understand that and really my opinion was more about the choice of allow an offensive comment to remain in a general forum.

Anyway, assuming this post is cool I'll let it go having had my two cents. Cheers. :thumn.

You call it whinging some people call it having an opinion, for the record you will not be suprised to know that I am with Bartman on this.
