The timing is too suss for this to be anything other than a beat-up.

Its an actual quote from the Roosters as recently as Wednesday, not a "inside sources" or any other clearly media copy filler.

That makes you think there is more than some meat on the bones with this one.

Good to see Martin Kennedy is a blood HGH expert also, people crap on about League players not being smart, but clearly old Marty is a world renown expert.

If there is fire behind this smoke, it may well destabilize their preparation.

If there isn't, then this will galvanize them.

I think everyone is missing the point here...

... Surely, Ryles should be suspended for this?!

We already had our turn yesterday with the Bennett -> Cowboys bollocks.

Fuelled by Bennett yesterday. It's part of his plan keep the pressure off the players it's why he's the best. Doesn't talk all year but everyday in the finals there he is

Did you watch the press conference in which he said it? He was asked specifically about the Cowboys job and had to respond. If you watch the actual quote as it was said, you realise how much of a beat up it really was.

Of course, you're right... he wouldn't have committed to a specific answer in order to put the focus on him, not the players. He's a master at manipulating the media, and they play into his hand every single time without fail.

Yeah I saw it a simple I am not going anywhere shuts it down IF he wanted that. It's the media something is going to be beat up look at the Sharks story yesterday the article actually said Smith said no team would move.

Better him to Cowboys then them asking Roberts about comparisions between him and Joey etc. It's all mind games helped by him usually being silent that when he actually speaks. It's the difference between quality coaches and good coaches

I'd love to see a study confirming the theory that different races have different baseline HGH levels because it sounds like a good 'ol Uncle Nick conjob.

No, the Roosters have not had any positive drug tests results

Elevated Human Growth Hormone readings can occur for a number of reasons. Having elevated readings does not a positive test make. For example, if you are sick or if you have a diet that is high in certain proteins or you work out a lot you could have elevated levels. Also race can play a part. Pacific Islanders have higher natural levels than caucasian people for example at certain times of their lives.

Elevated growth hormone levels are a warning sign that there may be other issues there that require addressing such as follow up testing, medical assistance for a virus or a change in diet.

Professional athletes often have levels that are higher than normal, especially if say they're going through a growth spurt in their teens. It's important to determine the baseline you're comparing one person to vs another and to also determine if there are genuine reasons as to why this can occur. Making blanket statements such as "players have tested positive" does no one any favours and only serves to muddy the waters and cast suspicion on people that do not deserve it. Such as we've seen with Cronulla all year.

For the record I have not flung any dirt at Cronulla - nor will I do so and I have been highly critical of the whole ElephantJuice in sport thing from the start. I personally think it's a f**king farce with more political bullshit surrounding it than anything else.

People have been using it as a vehicle to take the focus off their own failings and it's been a f**king disgrace from the get go.

Now it's being used to try and destabilise a club right on the eve of the Finals. The timing couldn't have been more obvious.

Timing is everything, the way information has been released makes this episode seem contrived and agenda driven.

Elevated Hgh levels compared to who...themselves....NRL players or the average bloke of the same age ?

I have been weight training for 20 + years and i'm sure my Hgh levels were above average for that entire time and not cause i'm a juice monkey.

Heavy compound training encourages release of HGH naturally hence why you get stronger and bigger from repetitive exercise, such as bench, squats and deadlifts.

So how would this quote make sense then?

??I will add that the couple of players who had elevated readings were tested again by our club doctor and those readings were perfectly normal.

That quote makes it clear that the Rooster's believe that having any elevated readings is not "normal".

The growth rate of pacific islanders through puberty is amazing and not a myth.

It has become an issue in junior league with the size disparity between boys a reason why weight and not age should be used to grade juniors.

Caucasian kids eventually catch up but not till adulthood, personally i was still getting taller in my 20's..

Weird situation. Blood test results on the phone of an organized crime figure, testing facility going beyond the scope of the testing required, and the elevated reading disappearing on the retest by the Roosters.

Sounds like the Roosters dealt with it appropriately in January, not sure there is much to it, but it reads for an ugly headline for a successful club at this end of the season.

Good to hear a positive mature comment from a non-Roostesr supporter. Appreciate it Rudder. Most comments on here are silly, immature and have no balance. A total of 8 clubs have been questioned in this. That does not make anyone guilty at this time.

They've known about this for months and the story breaks now? How convenient

Exactly.

Elevated compared to what ?

Who knows, unlike Martin Kennedy, Im not expert on any of this.

But its clear from those actual quotes that the Roosters believed that an elevated reading would not be "normal"

If every race has a different HGH content there must be a benchmark for different races of people etc. if what you claim is true (I dont know).

Surely you don't test for HGH based on 5 foot 4 Asian's physiology only, for example.

Maybe they got the tests mixed up with the 89 year old nursing home patient
