Origin Backline....

I know its very early in the season, but theres already been alot of talk about various Origin lineups and I was alarmed to see how many Broncos are strong possibilites to make the side.

In previous years we've dealt with similar situations, except the problem was with our forward pack. So I've been wondering, come Origin time if the QLD backline looks something like this...

1) Hunt
2) Tate
3) Tonga
4) Berrigan
5) Slater
6) Lockyer
7) Seymour

Who will step up and take control? Last year we had the luxury of being able to call up a former origin rep in Ikin, Hunt was guarded from rep football, players like Mick DeVere missed out on selection etc.

If those players were to be selected the only backline stars we would have left would be Maguire, Hodges and to a lesser extent Bott.

So I ask the question, who can we call to fill these holes?

my origin backline would be
1 Schifcofske
2 Slater
3 Tonga
4 Berrigan
5 Tate
6 Lockyer
7 Seymour

So pretty close other than i dont think Hunt will get picked this year, plus i think Schifcofske will really be needed to kick goals...

this would leave us a backline of roughly
1 Hunt
2 Topou
3 Hodges
4 Parfitt
5 Bott
6 Barnes
7 McGuire

or something similar to that...

1. Clinton Schifcofski (Best all around fullback)
2. Ty Williams (4 Line breaks out of 3 games)
3. Willie Tonga (Depends on his form at the time)
4. Brent Tate (Just outdoing Bowman and S. Berrigan)
5. Billy Slater (leading try scorer)
6. Darren Lockyer (Regarded as the best player at the moment)
7. Brett Seymour (Has a better kicking game then Prince)

14. Matt Bowen (Need him in the side somewhere)

What about Wesser, I know his form hasn't been the same when Penrith won the comp, but he showed some of his best stuff against the Dragons. If he keeps progressing I think he will get his spot back.

Wesser played well, has made the most metres...however he isn't the best all round fullback on offer.

Rhyce Wesser (Panthers)
Justin Hodges (Broncos)
Josh Hannay *Kicker* (Cowboys)
Willie Tonga (Bulldogs)
Billy Slater (Storm)
Darren Lockyer (Broncos)
Scott Prince (Tigers)

Int: Matt Bowen (Cowboys)
Casey Maguire (Broncos) or Darren Smith (Brisbane Easts)

So I think the Origin line would look like this:

1. Slater
2. Tate
3. Tonga
4. Berrigan
5. Williams
6. Lockyer
7. Seymour

So our Baby Bronco lineup would look like this:

1. Parfitt
2. Tupou
3. Kelly
4. Hodges
5. Bott
6. Hunt
7. Maguire

14. Barnes (to take Maguires spot)

Shit Yeah! Put Berrick Barnes in! he's a champ. I reckon they should put him on the bench right now!

That's the worst line up ever!

Please let Melbourne play you guys during origin if Stu Kelly plays in the halves... he's one very, very ordinary footballer

Origin:

1. Wesser
2. Tate
3. Tonga
4. Berrigan
5. Slater

6. Lockyer
7. Prince/Seymour

Prince and Seymour are both going well at the moment. Scott Donald and Steve Bell just missed out.

My stab at Broncos line up (with Seymour):

1. Hunt
2. Bott
3. Parfitt
4. Hodges
5. Bott

6. Barnes
7. Seymour

Without Seymour:

1. Parfitt
2. Topou
3. Hodges
4. Minto
5. Bott

6. Hunt
7. Barnes

I think it really depends on whether they want to start with Bowen or not! I would go this way:

1. Hunt
2. Tate/ Ty Williams
3. Tonga
4. Berrigan
5. Slater
6. Lockyer
7. Seymour

14. Bowen
15. Webb!
Outsiders that could push for selection include Steven Bell depending on Tonga's form and possibly Thurston.
