Are you related to Lockyer by any chance B'Droid?

What a pathetic article. To suggest a single League game on its own would determine who the best player in the game is, is ridiculous and childish.

Btw, i believe Danny Buderus was the best player in the game last year.

Obviously a pretty lame attempted gee-up from droid, Tom.

For one whos posts are usually quite meticulous, and a high attention to detail is paid, for him to claim Lockyer as being without par in the game the last two seasons despite him having one of if not THE worst defensive record in the competition, well,....................... its obvious droids having a lend or a lug.

One of the two.

When Johns has been able to play origin he has been very very influential - I think that's unfair.

But Fittler too, didn't play his best football in origin, nor Sterling, and of course the King (and a number of other Queensland greats) didn't play his best in the NSW comp. but at the end of the day, when listing the greatest footballers of all time, all will get a mention (including Lockyer) despite all having blots on the resume (Lockyer is frail defensively, and a number of times was very frail at fullback in tests against NZ)...

I do not for a second think that Langer, Kenny and Daley rate higher than Sterling, Fittler, Lewis, or Lockyer (but certainly they're in the same bracket). But Langer, kenny and Daley spring to mind as players that were wonderful at international, club, and origin levels...

Johns talked the talk in 2002 saying he wanted to dominate yada yada yada. He played great game one, then went MIA the next 2 games. Even being outpointed by a 5'4 "washed up" alan langer in game 3!
Johns is a GREAT club player, but when it comes to origin he fails to meet that standard...doesnt even come close.
Lockyer had one bad game (debut) for australia as a fullback in 1998.

Daley was the only player after Wally who could play better in Origin than he did anywhere else. It's the mark of a true champion.

Then again, the way Joey and Lockyer have played over the years makes it rather hard to play even better when it comes to Origin. Remember, Wally bided his time until he was needed most, while Joey only has one gear.

yup - but you're saying Johns has failed in origin - you're kidding - he may have failed to live up to the hype surrounding him, but I don't recall seeing him play a bad game by normal standards at any level, and he won't tonight either.

In origin terms, Lewis is head and shoulders above everyone, but to suggest that Johns has been a failure smacks of one-eyed jingoistic Queensland stupidity

Johns by a knock out on in the third.

Just got back from the game, i didn't even know Lockyer was on the field most that game.

It is an insult to Johns to have even been compared to Turnstyle Locky.

lmao - I think Red and Blue is right - comparing Johns and Lockyer is possibly an insult to Johns...

But posts like that are an insult to common sense

Fittler and Daley may have been great players, but lockyer has more class in every aspect. Lewis is the only other player that could control an origin match like Lockyer and Johns.

Lockyer is a great player, but he has rarely had the sort of impact that either Fittler or Daley consistantly created in their many Origin matches... He doesn't control a game like those players do and never has. Maybe your just too young to remember.

P.S You really ought to change your sig now Nostradamus ;)

Absolutely! Johns performance last night and his dreadful matches in the 2003 series prove how correct this statement is... moron *cough*

LOLOL. Seriously clutching at straws.

You're missing the point, or should that be your point, which was...

"Johns is a GREAT club player, but when it comes to origin he fails to meet that standard...doesnt even come close."

Well from where i was sitting it apeared he met the standard last night.

And game 1 2003? was the best on ground
game 2 2003? the best on ground.

As far as Orogin series' go, that's as consistent as you need to be.

You must be confused Charlie.

Prior to 2003 even Johns stated he had never shone at SOO level, and he talked himself up about planning to be a force in the 2003 series.

Game 1, 2003 was probably the mst intense game of SOO ever, even Eddie Jones came out that week saying the Wallabies can't reach that level of intensity.

It was an evenly matched game, yet IIRC NSW won 27-4.

Andrew Johns dominated that game like no other player has dominated a SOO game, not even Lewis, Daley or Fittler.

He played a blinder in game 2, 2003.

Am I correct in saying he was out injured in game 3?

no he played game 3 and QLD won 36-6...it was a dead rubber game though (just like game 3 2000)

game 1 2003 was not 27-4. I think it was 27-10
