I read on FB yesterday that there were something like 50 or so people ejected from the MCG yesterday but the Melbourne media ignored it

Yeh, see the link on Suity's post #166. They kicked out 90 (including 11 for 'discharging missiles'....I'm surprised they haven't had their passports cancelled).

Theres been a fair few articles written about it.

Were they referred to as hooligans?
Was it on the front page of this morning's papers?
Will Jones and Hadley dedicate entire shows trying to bring the sport down?

Course not. It was just a few Aussies havin' a larf, eh matey?
Silly duffers.

Down my way here in the South there is genuine momentum for a Southern Sydney team. I even suggested a name for them and colours to one Sutherland Sharks legend and good mate of mine. He loved it. If we get Tim Cahill to launch and be the marquee it it would be be massive.

Do you really think the south has the support though? It's a huge risk is it not?
I'm not so sure myself, although I'd love it to be as big as the Wanderers and bigger than ESFC.
I suppose my question is whether there are enough football fans in that part of Sydney who would give a shit and follow a team. A lot already go for ESFC. Would they change?
I know it has a massive junior area to call upon. The amount of juniors playing football absolutely smash the amount of kids who play any other sport, except netball, but would that translate into attendances? I'm not so sure it would, after the Tim Cahill wank fest died off.

Jose? Is that a bad thing?

Nope. I think it's a good thing. He's a good manager and I think Chelsea were stupid.
Popovic had a bad year last year. Most clubs would have sacked him. What did the Wanderers do? Extended his contract.
Now look where they are!!!
Manly should have done the same with Toovey but they were as stupid as Chelsea.

Sorry why ESFC? As in Eastern? The special one should have been the coach after Ferguson but Ferguson made sure of Moyes who was just as bad as this Dutch plodder. Problem for United is that players don't want to be managed by has beens. Mourinho is in the top 3 managers in the world and United would be mad not to appoint him.

Got an update on the situation today. The Sutherland Sharks want to be that club that gets promoted to the A League. Don't know if that will work. It will alienate people from the St George area and the Gong. Also their colours are identical to Sydney's.

It has to be NEW club, inclusive of all of the south. Not an existing club rebranded.
If it's an existing club, it won't work imo. Just like the Wollongong Wolves shouldn't be given a licence.

I agree with you. The Sharks are digging their heels in. They actually shit me. It could be a massive opportunity and their agendas could screw it. As you know Suity I like the A League. Ten teams isn't enough. They need a minimum of 12 but they must choose wisely. I cannot see a viable one unless they give them a proper infrastructure and home. I don't believe in this 3 home grounds bullshit to appease every area. They must decide on one, invest in it and watch it go boom. Remondis is the logical choice, it's central to all and needs to be upgraded anyway. Problem is that ''The Shire' is about 20 years behind the rest of Sydney and doesn't like much change. The people here and their insular ways shit me most about this beautiful area that I live in.

197 banned?

You still haven't shown how being kicked out means you get a ban... So far its like 197 to 20 isn't it?

The southern sydney team will be a flop imo. Wanderers have an area of 2m+ and it took them a winning opening season to get the bandwagon on board. 6 games in they were averaging less than 10k.

Shire has 200k, st george similar. If it's a shire team it won't get the st george supporters and vica versa. Needs to be a new team but even then.... All my soccer mates in the shire go to sydney fc games so it would just cannibalise their support.

Yeh a few extra derbies each year but 7/10 teams average 10k or less. Need to build support for those teams before adding in more because before you know it there will be a handfull of teams in syd, same in melb and everyone else will have folded.

Good points C89. Looking forward to the next derby. Every Sydney sider should experience it. The only thing that came close in atmosphere is the preliminary final between the Dogs and us in 2009.

Yeah i pretty much dont know shit about football, but my gut feeling is 2 teams is enough for sydney.

But if wellington go down and the a league needs to expand their teams, where would they place teams?
GC already flopped. I dont see other capital cities having more teams (dunno about melbourne). Can canberra take a team?

Mate, it's a bit of a lucky dip tbh.
Gallop (the goose) wants to fish where the fish are - or so he says. That means teams in population areas that give them tv dollars, like Melbourne/Brisbane/Sydney.
Personally, Canberra and Wollongong should be the next two teams.
Canberra however, would struggle after any period with a lack of success. Look at the League and Union teams.
Wollongong has a history of football and plenty of people from that demographic that starts with W that we can't mention here. They also have a ready made ground for football.
Other than that, the GC is a definite no go. Look at the Titans - people don't give a shit and the Suns crowds are seriously inflated after having 10's of millions of dollars wasted there.
North Queensland could possibly survive again in a better (the proposed) stadium that kept fans protected from the summer heat and monsoonal rains.
Otherwise, there's not enough money yet in the kitty to advance much further. The FFA are too busy trying to keep the likes of the Jets and Mariners alive. Those two clubs actually don't do too badly considering.

I still laugh at the original comments on here from OMC that the Wanderers would end up like Parramatta Power. So many people had no idea, and it's clear from the trolling above that so many still have no idea.

And even then, the derby is better. I was at that semi in 2009. Greatest RL game I've ever been to atmosphere wise, and still, the derby beats it every time. It's sad, because I'd love league to have the same noise and excitement for the games against the extreme rivals. It just doesn't and can't. It is what it is.
