When my grandparents built their house in Carlingford it was mostly orchards. My grandfather used to manage (not own unfortunately) a dairy farm called "Seven Hills".

Interesting stuff. If I recall correctly, Dale's soft drinks had their factory in Station Rd Seven Hills. The truck driver would pick me up on Victoria Rd ( cnr Crowgey St) every saturday and we would drive the streets of Dundas Valley and surrounding suburbs delivering sugar laden goodness to the hungover masses.

My Great Aunt & Uncle used to live in Arncliffe. Their neighbour's name was Bert Shelley.

Yep, it WAS Fred's Pizza. It was an institution of a decade and a half. There's an Italian restaurant there now that looks quite classy. Haven't been there.
And Johnny's Fish and Chip shop was also popular amongst a lot of the Valley Boys.
I lived closer to Telopea shops - the Evans Rd ones, not the station ones.
Just off Kirby st.
I was allowed to go home from school for lunch.

I was more down Dundas station end. To be more specific, halfway between Dundas and Rydalmere stations. On a side note, being a country boy lost in the big smoke I can't say with any enthusiasm that my days at MBHS were good ones. However, I made some good friends and now look back at those days with some fondness.

I got a surprise the other day when just down from Rydalmere was a suburb called Melrose Park. Very toff name for the merkins that used to live in Meadowbank / West Ryde.

It all changes and we can't stop it. I remember a bunch of things from my days in the area which aren't relevant now. The valley was the hard arsed area with all those cyclone fences. Rydalmere Av was just a road that joined Victoria Rd until they decided James Ruse Dr was a goer and the blasting commenced next to MBHS. The Family Hotel was the place to be for bands ( probably my best time in the area) and Kissing Pt Rd was a goat track up to Stewart St, I think.

Yes I am old enough and lucky enough to say that I saw Cold Chisel, The Angels, Midnight Oil, Hunters and Collectors, Divinyls all at the Family Hotel. Sad that the pub scene has died for bands.

Mate, I reckon I saw all those bands except The Divinyls at the Family.
I remember seeing Cold Chisel there one Wednesday night, and two nights later, went up and saw them at my now pathetic local, the Vicar of Wakefield at Dural here, just up the road.
Both were amazing shows. Chisel were such the quintessential pub band. Amazing days that just can't be repeated now. :(:?
