No because his career was on the line. You don't need the club to actually tell you that you need to get this crap behind you or you'll end up in the shit heap. He was the NYC gun with all the TA's. He had the world at his feet. Most people would do anything they could to "fix" the problem. If he fixes it quickly he could have the potential of earning millions over the next 10 years.

What's he been charged with though? He could have just been charged with giving a false statement, which he admitted to doing in court. The cops would rightfully be extremely p**sed off with him over that. It would have cost them a lot of time and damaged their case.
