Nah the Board will hold an internal investigation and clear themselves of any wrong doing.

It's either up to the cops or the club to hold an investigation. It's nobody else's business.

If the police aren't interested in doing it then why should the club bother with anything more than a token Q & A? Unlike the judicial system, the club doesn't have the authority to make anyone talk, much less force them to tell the truth.

I understand you want heads to roll no matter what's gone on, but the reality is your best chance of replacing the board is at the next election. Whenever that is.

The court has already accepted what Murray has said.
I'm sure if anyone at Parra disputes it they will take the appropriate legal action.

It doesn't look like Murray has implied that Parra told him to lie. That implication has come out of the media.

The pressure the club placed on Murray was to avoid jail in order to save his career. There's no way any club would counsel a player to lie to police just so he could keep playing, especially not a reserve grader who had never played first grade.

We threw him in the too-hard basket very quickly, which shows how important he was to the club.

The court also used Murrays previous statement to help convict Tandy.
Where does this leave the original decision in Tandy's case?
Will Murray get charged for lying to the police?

And it'll stay too easy, champ.

If you haven't noticed, I've got a lot to say about everything. I'll take any excuse to share my opinion whether you want it or not.

If you want to take that as a victory then more power to you.

When I was a young bloke I knew a kid who had a John Elias scrapbook. It contained more articles from the front of the paper than the back.

He's certainly a 'colourful rugby league identity'.

After he he was charged with fire arm offences in the early 90's, around the time the eels forward pack was crap - there was a joking going around that the "eels were looking at signing Elias to give their forward pack some extra fire power"

Also after he got out of jail he went on the footy show and sang "I fought the law and the law won"

Wasn't he also charged with impersonating a cop while hanging around public toilets and extorting money from homosexuals?

I wonder if Tandy's conviction will just be quashed without the neccessity of an appeals trial. That would be a joke because he probably would have been found guilty without Murray's statement. The evidence against Tandy would have been overwhelming.

I don't think the evidence against Tandy WAS overwhelming. That's why Murrays evidence was critical.
Now that Murray has outed himself as a liar, I wouldn't be surprised if Tandys appeal is upheld.
Can any of the legal eagles on this site shed any light as to what might happen to Murray?

He might be in trouble. You can be charged if the false statement you made f**ked with the police investigation, or if the statement was a sworn statement or under oath in Court that they gave which they knew was false.

So if he made a false statement and signed the cops note book for example, then he's fine. I think.

The footage of the incident was extremely damning imo, even watching it live I remember thinking how stupid was this guy and that he will be penalized for sure.......

If he (Tandy) eventually gets off, he is one lucky guy!!!

Not only that but the day prior to the match he'd made phone calls to 4 of the people who placed bets on the penalty goal option. Appeal if his appeal is upheld on a technicality or the burden of proof hopefully the NRL can independently find there's enough evidence to ban him from the game for life in every capacity.

............which it seems that way in the Elias case.

or if the statement was a sworn statement or under oath in Court that they gave which they knew was false.

He's admitted it was false, although the original statement wasn't made in a court of law.

So if he made a false statement and signed the cops note book for example, then he's fine. I think.

This bit confuses me.

Absolutely.
IMO, it's quite clear what has happened here. But, sometimes the law is an ass, and technicalities can sometimes save the perceived guilty.
I found the judges statement the other day that a prosecutions witness, (Murrihy I think his name was) opinions should be kept to himself. :?
