From the foxsports website:

Eels coach resigns
May 15, 2006

EMBATTLED Parramatta coach Brian Smith has resigned effective immediately, according to the NRL club's website.

Parramatta's board of directors has a scheduled meeting tonight, where a replacement for Smith will be discussed.

"I informed the players, staff and management team of my decision earlier this afternoon," Smith said. "In assessing the situation, it has become apparent that someone else should be at the helm to guide the team in future matches.

"It is a very sad day for me as I have given 10 years of service to the club, but my decision is based on what is best for the club."

The coaching circus is a deadset joke.

Elliot - Won't last the season due to crap performances, but has a job for next year.

Smith - Say no more.

Hagan - Asked to move on despite good performances in 2nd half of 2005 and a strong start to 2006.

Lang - Punted, despite strong performances with a depleted roster thus far in 2006.

Hadley crowed long and hard at the start of the season, boldly (hahaha) predicting that one of the four wouldn't last the year...

Go Ray!

kidding aren't ya - i hope they drown in their own slime.
No im not not card shark, with many teams i hate in this competition, Parramatta aren't one of them. Hindmarsh is from the area i live and it's sad to see him slug it out to not result.

I heard on the radio that Ope's is the front runner to take over this year (with Hagan taking the reigns next year.)

I wonder how true that is...

Kimmorly might sign with Parramatta for the rest of the season if thats the case

from smh
"BRIAN Smith quit as Parramatta coach yesterday, saying he was no longer the man to lead the Eels out of trouble - on a day when two of his star players were found to have been drinking at a local hotel before a scheduled pool recovery session.

It is understood halfback Tim Smith turned up to the session affected by alcohol and was sent home, while hooker Mark Riddell did not turn up at all. Eels chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said last night the pair faced an inquiry"

gee, im glad we went over the line to get riddell. No sizzler for you piggy.
Goose indeed.

I stand by what I said a week ago - Parramatta will fire now. Jason Taylor is well liked and respected by the players. It might not happen this week but watch the big improvement in the next few weeks.

Signing Riddell would've been our worst high profile signing in Sharks history.

To think Parra are stuck with him for another 2 years after this year and taking a huge chunk in their salary cap.

Dennis you should've kept the cheque book in the pocket!

Yes I remember you saying that, but its not quite the truth.
The players are actually filthy over the way Smith & Taylor have been treated & some other footbal staff. apparently there a couple who are happy. This has caused player division.
Players like Tahu are filthy that Hagan is coming & may use a get out in their contracts.

But I agree now, parra may well fire with a few positional changes, that Taylor can afford to make in the current climate, that perhaps were too risky for Smith to make.
