Asteroid shenanigans.

Fair enough

Anyhows issue is too many people and economy based on consumerism.
People feel that their purpose in life is to buy and own things along with seeing the world. While everyone wants the most out of life we will continue to burn the planet up.

People need to go back to simple. Days at beach , bushwalks , camping.

Don't agree. Mankind proved with the ozone hole that if we band together we can use our brains to fix huge man made problems.

We can combat climate change without having to dispense with a consumer lifestyle. The roadblock to meaningful action on climate change seems to be one faction of the community who don't like to change how they live their lives, especially if it might also impact on their wallet.

When it came to the ozone, they were all for it when it meant that a) their fridges will still run b) they could still buy rexona in a can and c) it will not cost them any money.

This time around it will change the way they will live and will probably cost them some cash. So notwithstanding their acceptance of the science with the ozone, this time around the scientists have NFI.

It's a bit of a shame hey, had we not bothered to clean up the emissions of particulate matter and just carried on dumping that pollution into the air, it might well have been enough to offset the warming effect of greenhouse gasses and shit would be all cool.

Oh well.
Something new will come up. Nothing surer.

So the only people who won't have to change how they live are the ones with enough cash to cover the cost of excess carbon emissions? Sounds like you're describing urban Greens voters.

That's not what I said. There are plenty of people who are prepared to do the heavy lifting when it comes to meaningful action on climate change. Others would too if it was free. Can you really see (Australian) conservatives objecting to action on climate change if it was free ? Lowering emissions means that merkins will have to change the way they live and generate power. At the moment that movement for change is being hamstrung by merkins who deny that change needs to occur or (like our PM) just pretend that they are taking action to lower emissions.

Conservatives aren't any more money hungry than progressives. Where they're sceptical about climate change solutions is when those solutions are linked to socialism and Greta's very revealing comments about dismantling the patriarchy.

I'm also skeptical of action on climate change because socialism and a sixteen year old girls views on the patriarchy.

It's such a compelling argument.

I've always found it very useful to look at the motivations of people claiming they just want to help. Especially when their only 'help' is trying to influence others.

Did you see what I did there with (Australian) Conservatives ? Because their British counterparts are not sceptical about climate change solutions at all. Indeed there has been a bipartisan position on climate change in the UK for a decade or two. Why do you think that happened ?
Greta's very revealing comments about dismantling the patriarchy.
Well yeah we're all feeling threatened by a 16yo girl who is on the spectrum.

Controlling people through fear is just the European way. Why should the Brits be immune?

You've chosen your mouthpiece. Don't cry foul when people see through the packaging.

I think Greta was a tad too passionate with her comments to be convincing.

You didn't answer the question. Why is it that conservatives in the UK believe the position of science in the UK, however their counterparts in AU do not ? It's a tad too simplistic and naive to suggest that they were simply hoodwinked and bought the hoax hook line and sinker.

You're a little rusty on the history merkin. No, she arranged the climate strike for schools globally. Got a boat to the UN and said some stuff. Nobody chose her. MSM certainly followed her around and gave her a platform.
