Are we talking about the Chevron that made $14.4B and paid $4.3B in tax last year?
Oooh you got me. Let's do the same with Shell and Santos.

I get that you have allegiances, but if the argument is that passing on GST and paying payroll tax etc makes you a good corporate citizen, then excuse me I need to make a phone call.

The whole thing smacks of a dead beat dad not paying child support and his mates at the pub backing him cos he bought Pheobe a bike, takes her to the movies now and then and sends her a SMS on her birthday.

..and yet Phoebe's mum somehow lives in a mansion in Vaucluse

"In 2022, the Shell Australia Group had over AUD$1.5 billion income tax payable as well as approximately AUD$1 billion in royalties, condensate excise, duties, levies and other taxes to federal and state governments."

...and of course, there is also Petroleum Resource Rent Tax.

"Gas giants are expected to pay $2.6 billion this financial year, $200 million more than forecast in May, because of the war in Ukraine.

In 2023-24, PRRT revenues are expected to grow to about $2.45 billion."

We started with a conversation about the sector and are now down to the actions of a couple of players.

Trump’s version of peace is to withdraw support for Ukraine and allow Russia to steamroll. He’s said it and has conditioned his side to accept it as a good idea.

Peace in the middle east. Yeah right. Jarryd was going to fix it all and the result was $2B in managed funds and he & his Mrs withdrawing from political life. Well played grifters.

You totally overlooked what I posted last time where his policies destroyed the US ag exports and they had to subsidise farmers. That just added to the US debt.

Ask Australian farmers how the last term impacted them. Our government doesn’t have $US36B per annum to hand out to farmers. Meanwhile the US trade agreement we’ve had since 2005 allows them to dump their excess ag on our markets. Unfortunately for us, it is not a two way street.

That’s revisionist. You’re totally ignoring history. Trump unnecessarily started a trade war with China. He was even name droping Australia as being his staunch allies. What happened? China tested our friendship with Huawei and the 5G thing. It wasn’t really important to them but it was a test. We failed. The Lowy Institute has written about this extensively. In the end, China’s economy took a hit from Trump’s pointless policy and punished most US allies accordingly. Canada, Japan and Sth Korea all took a hit, but none as sever as us.

So how “could it be great” this time ?

You might want to look at why Russia invaded the Ukraine in the first place. Essentially unhappy with It mutterances about joining NATO. All the warnings from Russia to the west ignored. People are getting killed, that war should end with a settlement.

I see you’re not addressing the Middle East. The democrats policy has been rubbish and now we have a serious problem in the Middle East with tens of thousands of innocent people being killed.

Australia needs to diversify its export markets and push its comparative advantages. Loss of market share is usually our own fault. We can barely build a road. Look at the number of trucks on the road compared to what could be going by rail.

Stopping wars is a good idea, maybe the most important of of all his policies.

A settlement needs to be reached with Russia asap and Israel needs to check its war machine.

Where are we at now, 50,000 dead people and counting.

This horrific figure doesn’t look like abating under the democrats. They don’t have any answers, no solutions. It’s frightening.

They only got a bit serious recently when it became beneficial to their deep state campaign.

Im not opening any coffins of ukkies and or Arab friends telling them they are Ok because they stood up for themselves.

These are urgent matters of life and death, and I think more important than strokes on trade diagrams.

Neither are dumb. Whilst both are politcians and winning is the gaol goal, there is one candidate that will do say agree to anything to get a vote. Their moral compass swings wider than most.

Those people come and go. I don’t recall any of them having longevity at the top.

The day Abbott bared his soul

THE way Tony Windsor recalls it, Tony Abbott begged crossbench MPs to make him prime minister, joking ''the only thing I wouldn't do is sell my arse - but I'd have to give serious thought to it''.

Albos got no problems selling his arse

Trump is the best chance of peace.

Even blinkin has finally decided to exert a bit more pressure on Israel over the last week because the democrats have finally realised there’s big Arab populations in swing states.

Cynical deep state politics.

Trump is not keen on war, good policy position.

A more inward looking USA, very good for countries that have had bad experiences with them, and a change in the owners of capital.

There might not be much wrong with other countries expanding trading opportunities.

The US will continue to trade, may even re-industrialise to serve its own.

Could be great for our economy, especially trade with China.

Yep
Kamala is a war monger.
Actualy it's a bit funny people here think left is not big on military. This is so far from the truth in our country. They are huge on defense. (A good thing) Those Chinese would crush us if given a chance. Gotta keep them honest.

You will be labelled. Putin propagandist any minute now.

I dont know how anyone thinks that war will get resolved other than some sort of compromise.

Short of a world war and the yanks n uk putting troops on the ground and big firepower on show, Ukraine wont wear down Russia. The yanks are just using them as canon fodder to try and weaken Russia (fingers crossed his people might turn on him)... and it hasnt worked. Russia is just building new alliances.

Yes.

Given your insight, you might find this interesting:

I like his point that America’s military options are giving way to economic disempowerment.

My general theory of humankind is that it presents as a struggle for resources,we are in an era of intense competition. That creates a lot of displacement and chaos. A lot of actors running around in the same theatre, with various degrees of “success”

Some of the legacy left here are very intolerant.

Putin wasn’t going to accept nukes or whatever on his doorstep as the Americans wouldn’t accept them in Cuba.

Yet we continued to batter our eyelids at the ukkies and asked them if we could come over.

The world is changing and US capital has to chill and learn to share.

Australia is a wealthy country but we continue to treat our poor and battlers pretty badly.

I don’t mind paying tax but when I watch Rudd spend $40k on a party at our embassy in the US so he can virtue signal…
