Just caught ScoMo on sunrise. Absolutely missed the perfect setup. Ended with them talking about Top Gun and the interviewer asked if he was more Maverick or Iceman and Scotty said probably a bit of both. The response should’ve obviously been he was Goose

The Chief of Solomon Islands is going off his head at Australia and our measured, compassionate and above all, responsible criticism of the potential adverse impacts of their dealings with the Peoples Republic.

source: https://amp.abc.net.au/article/101038296

And is very critical of our media.

What does he think we are going to do-sit back and applaud a potential new military threat in our backyard that will cost us billions?

Has he got his head around China’s South China Sea frolics or their Ukkie Response Committee? Not any longer, but let’s say they might have tempered their position on North Korea and they may have less nukes. Too late now, even if the People’s Republic has dropped their wokey support and now despises them

As sure as night follows day, Taiwan will be rejoined, but the Chinese already own most of it economically. They could destroy it economically I’d say. A peaceful transition is better than bloodshed. Australia would benefit greatly by an influx of bulk Taiwanese. Enormous skills, intelligence and work ethic. Strong democratic values and the rest. A good calibre of a people who share many of our own values.

I’m not anti-Chinese at all they have a lot to manage and a lot of problems and we could do more to support them, but I’m not uber pleased with all of their policies.

We are providing the Sollies with bulk foreign aid and defence and they seem to hate us anyway.

Of course we withdraw that and there’s a Chinese carrier off their coast soon after.

I read someone is talking about an Australian invasion, pretty risky and I’m against that, but I think we still need to make a measured military statement.

A sub and a few raptors in the precinct to let them know whose boss.

The South Pacific is our backyard, we will decide who plays cricket in it and when it’s six and out.

We should not be lectured to by a bloke and a government of a failed state. Especially during free and democratic elections. They need to stop their meddling and interfering.

why does Australia get to tell the Solomon Islands what to do? .... they are their own country yeah?

do you also think Russia should decide who plays cricket in their backyard?

Probably a nomenclature slip - but he's a democratically elected Prime Minister. Unsure if meant chief of a tribe.

He's also a mad merkin. 😳

Lol you caught me red-handed!

I was just being an arrogant, colonialist, disrespectful imperialist flog, in order to have a bit more of a go at him.

He’s driving wedges, wants cash for the country and himself.

No offence intended to the real chiefs in Samoa, Tonga, Maori etc whom we respect and admire.

We cough up the biggest share in foreign aid. We and NZ are the guys that are there when they have civil unrest or natural disasters. I know that we grate their gears with climate change inaction, but the signing of a security pact with China is f**ked up by both him (without public consultation) and us by letting this happen whilst we stand by and watch.

The biggest slap in the face really is that the Solomon Island are part of the Commonwealth, so it must be unprecedented for a commonwealth country to have formal ties to China.

The public are not happy and it makes me wonder if Manasseh Sogavare is really doing this for his country's benefit or his personal benefit.

Recently there has been considerable unrest over their dumping of Taiwan and favouring China.

The same shit storm goes way back to 2009 over the whole China Taiwan thing.

Now the PM has signed the security pact, which means ...

The draft agreement between China and the Solomon Islands focuses on boosting the latter’s national security capacity. It also includes cooperation on humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and efforts to maintain social order, among other areas. A clause in the agreement says that China can “make ship visits to, carry out logistical replacement in, and have stopover and transition in Solomon Islands,” as well as send Chinese forces to the country to “protect the safety of Chinese personnel and major projects.” This has stoked concerns in the United States and its allies in the region that China could send troops to the Solomon Islands and establish a permanent military base there, less than two thousand kilometers from Australia.

Yes, and the problem, from Australia's perspective, is that we didn't 'stand and watch' - we were blissfully ignorant. In fact, we were also actively ignorant, with Abbott, ScoMo and Dutton having a cute little giggle about climate change threatening their existence (which was exactly what they considered to be the joke). Such utter insincerity is not a good basis for maintaining a healthy relationship with our friends and neighbors. Well done! What a bunch of smartarsed yobbos. It's no surprise at all that the relationship has been poisoned. It's what tends to happen when you let a bunch of arrogant mongrels run the show.

I'd say there are a lot of strings attached and a shit load of money involved too.

I mean, just ask yourself, what's in it for China ? they are not doing it just to be nice people.

Just a quick ad break for beautiful Samoa.

Had family visit as tourists and they had a really good time. There is a billion things to do and much nature to admire.

It’s a lot more earthy and personable than other destinations. They met a real chief on the beach.

And the beaches are still pristine and wondrous.

And lots of warm and friendly people everywhere and there’s no trouble with the crime.

The local bus can be crowded and you may have to sit on a lap or be sat on as the custom goes.

People live in big houses with fewer rooms than ours. It’s more communal.

So don’t visit if you are a selfish, greedy or tight wad. Take resources to share.

They generally love Australians and often have many relatives living here and in New Zealand.

They are looking for responsible investors and people to share prosperity with.

The family get around ( alas not me) and Samoa is one of the favourite overseas destinations in the world.

Now back to regular programming.

A dude on the news the other night was saying our money has far more strings attached. We tell them what they can spend it all on. China doeant. Better for a dude in charge to put a bit aside for their own purposes.

Amazingly many cultures enrich their most powerful. There's a place called Australia where it has become so pronounced it now dominates almost all aspects of the economy and the culture.

If the Sollies continue with their hostile rhetoric, we could adopt the Russian approach.

One of the justifications for invading the Ukraine was that the Ukkies were talking to NATO and that was concerning the Kremlin.

Because weapons based in the Ukraine are better suited to attack Russia, much less time for the Ruskies to prepare a defence.

So we have the Sollies talking to China and that is of grave concern to Canberra for similar reasons.

Although an attack on Australia could be effected by blue sea craft not needing to be based on land. That’s not to be forgotten.
