Maybe you were dreaming Gronk as I don't recall such shenanigans. Tassie shield team doesn't have that many Tassie players in it, Silk would be one of their best batsmen and he's a Bluebag

They rely on players from other states to make up the numbers and they'll do the same in the AFL. When I lived in Vic they had 1 reputable player in the AFl that I can remember, they'll flop imo.
Arent they already losing millions with propping up GC and GWS every year.

I suppose when you have so much money to spend why worry.

Gronk is half correct. For the first few years of admission to the Shield, TAS only played each other team once, whereas all the mainland teams played each other twice. So Tassie's point score was scaled up by 9/5ths (or similar).

any idea when that happened ?

yes, but their attitude is that they are in it for the long haul and prepared to give it around 20 years or so to see if they can generate interest in western Sydney and the GC

they are looking at the next generation and they got tons of money behind them, most of their funds/sponsorships are generated by the big gambling companies which is pretty bad

they have no shame

Yeh, they started playing the same number of games as the rest of the states, so they earned the same points.
The bonus points system only operated for 4-5 years, maybe less. They came last every year that this system was operating I think.

Yes they are.
It's hilarious, yet they keep pouring shit loads of money into these two teams year after year.
Seriously, there is still very few people in western Sydney that give a shite about GWS.

Agree. Everyone has gone back to the Swans. Unless they are going well nobody cares about the Giants at all.

No one really cares about them anyway.
The media try and give them some substance in news reports, but really, in Sydney, does ANYONE even care?
They are a non entity, despite their paid media promotion from the AFL, even in news reports. This is why it is funny that the AFL's money keep's going down the drain, year after year.
Western Sydney is RL and football. It will never change.

I haven't seen someone wear a GWS polo shirt or jersey at the pub or shops in the Hills in 10 years.

Where they supposedly have the most members.

But they've made so many grand finals and finals campaigns over the last 25yrs. Very powerful club
South Melbourne/Bloods culture helps with over 100 years of history.

Plus they are known as Sydney's team not the plastic franchise in Orange that no one gives SFA about the AFL planted.

yeh, they used to be the Sth Melbourne Swans and moved the franchise to Sydney and they were owned by Edlestone and his pink helicopter

made his money from medical centre supermarkets type set up, they did OK while he was pouring cash in but went through a pretty lean period when he went broke

2 in 17 years is a bit average, why 17 years though ? if you go back further it will be worse

my team has won 4 in 12 years, I'd be happy if Parra won 1 in 12 years

I've lived in the Hills for 30 years. I reckon I've seen half a dozen people wearing GWS stuff in that time.
I'm not kidding. I see far more people wear Swans stuff.
This has not changed since GWS came into existence.

What I see most around here wearing is EPL and Euro Football teams (1), Eels (2), other NRL teams (3) = with Wanderers (3), ESFC (4). Swans a distant 5.
I'm not kidding, but in the past however many years (10?) GWS have existed, I reckon I haven't seen more than a dozen people wearing their merchandise.

I'm quite happy for the AFL to keep pouring 10's of millions of $$ into them year after year with no return.
They WILL NEVER win over Sydney's west as the demographic is just not AFL centric.
The funny thing is that the AFL think that they can just throw any amount of money to the west and eventually they think they will dominate western Sydney sport. It won't happen.
I continue to laugh at the fact they have even paid off local councils to dominate local sporting fields. It ain't working.
