Well of course it is a pointless exercise if the goal is to simply ask Aussies how they would vote in another country’s election.
However, what the survey reveals are broader ideological divides seen in global politics. For example, male One Nation voters—typically associated with more conservative and nationalist views—are likely to support Trump. This mirrors the kind of political alignment we see internationally, where populist or right-wing figures, like Trump, attract similar voter bases across different countries.
Those voters inclined towards populism or nationalism, regardless of country, may be more likely to support leaders like Trump, reflecting a faction in global politics.
It is topical in this country because Dutton campaigns on a platform of populism and nationalism. Ironically the politicians who actually reflect the ideals closest to the father of the liberal party, Menzies, are those independents referred to as Teals. Those economic conservative, yet socially responsible politicians are considered a “joke” by the conservatives these days.
