This is a rant, also a thing that has been troubling me since Monday and fits squarely into the mental health sector.

I was at the Drs Monday morning. The medical centre I go to my son goes to as well. They charge me and they dont charge him (bulk bill) because he's a student. So essentially they use their discretion when they charge ir don't.

So Monday I'm waiting on the bench and in comes a homeless guy. No shoes and unwashed. Looks mid 60's. He asks reception if he can see a Dr. She snaps it will be $80. He says he doesn't have any money. She remains silent.

Yes, there could be a back story, but what happened to "how about you come back at 5? What's your name ? Have you eaten today ?"

I could see how deflated he was. I could sense his feeling of hopelessness. He was brave enough to seek help, yet was shooed away like a stray. <sad face>
