Inflation is down for a number of reasons, obviously high interest rates, but less obviously less international pressure and a couple of budget surpluses

Wages growth is a direct result of government policy, a reversal of the previous governments deliberate wage suppression.

And unemployment has remained steady through the same demand pressures that have fuelled inflation, however this has been well managed with government policy supporting jobs growth.

Importantly wages growth is trailing inflation, not leading it, inflationary pressure on interest rates is easing, and without the fall in employment the boffins at the RBA are looking for. Meaning that whilst economic growth is poor, the economy is proving to be pretty resilient.

Oh and as I predicted, interest rates remain on hold after the February meeting.

I went there Bandy, but it seems to be government pr stuff.

My understanding is that governments of any persuasion have some kind of influence, but are also subject to the winds of broader economic change.

And when I studied economics at school, we learned about policy lead-in periods.

Paul Keating once likened the economy to a big heavy ship that takes a while to change direction, slow down or speed up.

But on my reckoning, a gun economy is fine, but variations within it ( who is benefiting and who isn’t) is still an issue.

Lots of assumptions are made, I guess they have to be, but some of the outcomes are horrific.

That youngsters can’t afford standard housing in a country as rich and spacious as ours, is perplexing, no, its upsetting.
