What are peoples thoughts on local councils? We have a crazy nutjob as Mayor in Cairns who has no idea about what the role of Council should be. Just sort out the basic services and stop meddling in issues that are the domain of the State and Feds.

I think local councils in general have inflated their own self importance to the point where they think that they have larger roles than collecting bins, fixing roads and having input in local affairs. They should leave politics to the state and federal politicians to let them f**k things up.
