Nonsense & complete rubbish i have followed this story for 48 hours and was going to post before i went to bed last night but didn't get around to it.
Wish i did now
As of yesterday 10pm last night the government had made no statement or intended to grant anyone from the team asylum.
The fact the Australian Government had a full 24-48 hours to get on the front foot and the only the commentary was from Matt Thistlewaite & Penny Wong both talking about no Prefenential treatment to any of the Irani soccer players.
Which then gave Donald the opportunity to go on twitter to demand action last night just shows how reactive this current government is.
Poor Albo would have needed a electric shock to get into action at 2am this morning to get on the phone to Trump and assure him everything was under control.
Some things aren't political, Libs v Labour....the situation with the Iranian ladies side is pretty sensitive.
It's not as simple as Albo announcing his position in the media. It's an extremely complex situation! There are potential internal security risks that need assessment. And also a life and death situation, with the players families at risk of execution back in Iran. It's got to be handle carefully to ensure a positive/safe outcome.
Trump didn't have to get involved, there were always plans in place by the government:
"Revealing that the government had been in secret talks with the players for days."
News of the escape prompted US President Donald Trump to intervene overnight, first by demanding on social media that Australia give the women asylum, and then by speaking with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Burke in his press conference this morning even thanked the opposition shadow minister and the media, for keeping things quiet...
while here is the response from the shadow minister:
Duniam said he spoke to his counterpart, Tony Burke, a couple of times over the weekend and downplayed the role Donald Trump's phone call this morning had.
"I do know that the government were actively working on this for a number of days in relation to the pressures that these women were probably facing and what we as a country would think is right," he says.
"So I don’t think [Trump's] driven it. I think that despite the radio silence and the minister outlined why there wasn’t a running commentary on this, and I think it is reasonable."
David Littleproud announces he is stepping down as Nationals leader, saying he believes it is time to transition to a new leader.
