RIP James Baker, drummer and an institution in the local independent music scene, with an amazing resume, commencing with the Victims and the Scientists in Perth in the late 70s. He was the original drummer in the Hoodoo Gurus. Also played in The Beasts of Bourbon, Dubrovniks, and many more. He'd not been well in recent years but still played extremely well. Had the pleasure of seeing him with The Beasts in 2023.

Another one, I loved it when he played with my mates Gaz, Fi and Spence in The Nothing Butts. Great album.
James wrote this one.

RIP Rick Derringer, guitarist who made a name for himself playing with Johnny Winter and Edgar WInter as well as being responsible for the Wrestlemania album of 1985. Started in the mid 60s pop group The McCoys, best remembered for their hit Hang on Sloopy, and his own solo hit Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo.

Vale Sly Stone (Sylvester Stewart) leader of Sly and the Family Stone. Mighty soul and funk pioneer. For the uninitiated I suggest checking out his Woodstock performance and also the recently released Summer of Soul Doco about the black music festival in Harlem that happened around the same time as Woodstock.

Beach is closed

Brian Wilson - Beach Boys gone at 82. Last one of the Boys
Strictly speaking, no he was the last of the 23 Wilson brothers to go, but Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnson are still with us.

I was lucky enough to see Brian live 3 times in the 2000s, where he did the Pet Sounds album and the Smile album in the first and second shows respectively.

Beach Boys one of my all time favourite groups .Brian the leader, producer, writer, understand he was suffering dementia. Those guys could harmonise with clear catchy songs. IMO heralded the start of surfing music.
Three words A CLASS ACT.
