'Did his best to hide it': Jerry Collins

All Blacks assistant coach Steve Hansen has sympathy for flanker Jerry Collins, who was in a no-win situation when nature came calling ahead of last night's Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia.

Moments before kickoff, television cameras caught a brief shot of Collins on one knee urinating on the Jade Stadium surface.

Hansen said he had not seen the incident but described it as "unfortunate".

"If you're a male and you're about to play a test match and you're seconds away from kickoff and you get the urge to want to go to the toilet - what do you do?" Hansen asked journalists today.

"Do you rush off and let the game start with 14 men or do you try to be as discreet as you can be and hope that cameramen use common sense and don't go showing it to everyone on the screen."

If he was a League player, would this be a HOFA? :)

It all happened so quick on the telecast I wasn't sure whether I'd seen it or it was just the extra dry talking...Jerry even gave it the quick mandatory shake after completion! Gold!

Maybe Luke O'Donnell should have just listened to the call of nature in the middle of the field and not missed the S of O 2nd half kick off!
