well these laws are ridiculous

Why are they ridiculous exactly? They haven't even been drafted yet ffs.

there are some of us who feel we can live just fine without the government holding our hand and telling us what to do all the time

And there are some who clearly can't, as evidenced by the massive problem gambler numbers in NSW alone.

Let's face it, most people can keep their dick in their pants when they walk down the street, but despite that we still have public exposure laws to 'cater' for the handful who can't. Welcome to society.

I say bring in corporal punishment for being an idiot. And punishment can be meted out by anyone witnessing the idiocy. It's evolutionary. Anyone incapable of not being an idiot will soon be beaten to death thus ridding their bloodline from society

i drive pretty shit when i'm tired. perhaps the cops should run random sleepiness tests

or perhaps they should just target crimes that actually have victims

my freedom means more than your money. your freedom should mean more than your money. and if you respect freedom, you should also respect a person's freedom to be an idiot. the government cannot stop you being stupid. if anything, our government only encourages you to be more stupid. only you can stop yourself being stupid. if you want the government holding your hand and controlling your life, move to north korea

I'm against mandatory pokie limits and the like. I too think that our freedoms are being encroached by such laws. I, however, am not naive or stupid (idiocy as you put it would fit) enough to believe that problem gambling is victimless.

I reckon I was a victim of it when I was a kid.

This explains why we do need some kind of nanny state - because there are loads of kids out there who made the stupid decision to choose shit parents.

Ideally the nanny state would take some of that choice away from such stupid children.

That's one way of looking at it.

Regardless of the actual effect on gambling, I'm really keen to see if the clubs will turn around their attitude towards entertaining and servicing their customers. I'm so sick of going to a club with my family to experience dud service, dud food and dud entertainment.

The pubs where I live are 50 times better than any of the clubs in the way they treat their customers. And it's because of the gravey train the pokies provide them. Comparing the local RSL/Bowls club to the local Hotel is like comparing a government department to a blue chip oraganisation and I'm embarressed for them.

Instead of thinking outside of the square and lobbying to put an end to the stupid 5km rule (which I reckon would offset some of their losses) or maybe having a think about their menus etc they bang on about how it's all gonna go down the tube.

I agree. I reckon I could drive drunk better than most people can drive sober, for example.

But plenty of people are already such bad drivers that allowing them to drive drunk would kill a lot of innocent motorists, pedestrians and passengers. And it's no good to have different rules for different people.

It's annoying for the rest of us, but it kind of is the government's job to cater for the lowest common denominator.

After all, they're the ones who elected them.

You mean 'they're the ones elected' don't you?
