Wouldn't you think it's a just end to a terrible story?
Respect for woman.

Suity

No it's a terrible end for Bird as well. I just hope that they stay consistent with their sentencing. There seems to be plenty out there to who get away with much more and walk free time and time again.

Domestic violence is wrong, agreed.

as sh*tty as his reported actions were i think he will get off on appeal. when the victim says he didn't do it i am pretty sure you can't be convicted. it's not like it's a gunshot wound or an action you can prove without the victim testifying.

and no, i am not condoning this type of behaviour just saying that for some odd reason the court has not taken into account the victim's word.

IMO justice has been done. He has been found guilty and I for one can't argue with the sentence. It's about time people wake up to themselves.

He was convicted several months ago.

He was sentenced today.

Any appeal being lodged will be an appeal against sentence. The only question on the sentence appeal will be whether a non-custodial sentence (like community service) or a lesser custodial sentence (like a suspended sentence or periodic detention) would be appropriate.

Bird may well obtain bail while on appeal.

The player from Cronulla (Latu?) received a custodial sentence in the Local Court then had it reduced on appeal of sentence to the District Court. Bird will be seeking something similar but it will be a big jum to have it whittled down from a sentence that size to a non-custodial sentence.

Best bet might be to look to have it reduced to a suspended sentence, which is technically a term of imprisonment (although obviously far better than actually going inside).

I dont know, but I'm sure HJ can tell us?

It's actually believed to have come from Monopoly. The Yanks ended up using jail (which is a phonetic spelling of gaol) and they made Monopoly and when the game moved over to England they pretty much just copied most of the board including the word jail and the obviously American copper that is pictured.

Thus, it spread throughout the Commonwealth, although gaol is still often used in proper literary or legal circles. Gaol is more commonly used in Australia than anywhere else, I believe.

Gee and all this time I thought it was a word used by dyslexic soccer players.

How is he able to get a work visa with a charge like that hanging over him?
I remember a player last year, Crocker maybe?, who was refused a visa for a drink driving charge that was years and years old....

it's a well timed message to any bloke who feels the need to asault women.

what he should do is bite the bullet and accept the sentence and then if he feels the need to go back to the game that made him a house hold name, he should use his profile to send a message to to every young bloke out there and educate them.
