99% of eels memberships would be ticketed. It will ge to the point where every seat at the stadium will have a membership attached. It will be all members only. There is a limit to the amount of memberships we can have.

Does anyone think Rugby League teams will have membership numbers like the afl one day?
I think the Eels have just about reached their maximum membership number. There's not much room to grow when the stadium doesn't even fit 20,000.

I'd pretty much agree with that. It's a bit different in the AFL where all teams are playing out of 45k plus stadiums. It's just the sporting culture as well, Sydney clubs may get 12 thousand members but that's about it unless your club is owned by one of Hollywood's biggest names who hands out memberships with christmas cards to all his chums.

AFL are a lot smarter than what we give them credit for....

Their plan is not to take over West Sydney in the first couple of years, they will do it by stealth.
Get established, start targeting the Western Sydney kiddies with the AUSKICK program in the schools.

Tell all the mums that little Johnny should come and play AFL, to avoid being trampled over by an 10 year old Islander kiddie that weighs in at 85kg and shaves every morning.

And if we are not careful, while we may gloat about how we saw off the threat in the first couple of years, we will be swamped 10 years out when all the kiddies grow up and are hooked onto AFL.

Blah blah blah. The AFL are smarter than we give them credit for??? Really??? Sticking two new teams into area's that would prefer the black Plague to an AFL side is smart?????

The way Calvin Shoddy and his cronies go on Western Sydney has never seen a game/or a had to the chance to watch a game in their life. The Swans have been around for 30 years and even after they were gifted a Flag(Flag:lol:) Their TV ratings and crowds are nose diving.Same for the Lions, instead of gaining a new foot hold for AFL they are going to split an already small fanbase. Sinking 200 million into the GWS/Suns in 10 years is hardly smart, the reason it hasn't and never willt ake off in the Northern states is we are not braindead Victorians brought up on a shit game that don't know any better.......

Linking up with brands that Western Sydney live and breathe, such as Skoda is a smart move.

And they are on to a winner in Folau, i mean played for Brisbane/Storm and QLD. You can't get much more Western Sydney than those teams

i agree, they will try and sneak in over time - and they will have some success .... i don't think they'dd ever overtake league totally, but its silly to just laugh at them cos what TD said above is real and true

mummies do fear their little kid getting messed up (rightly or wrongly) and its just not as big a risk in aussie rules - soccer/football is a prime example: a huge number of little kids play soccer/football cos that's what their parents will allow as it is less dangerous, but soccer/football isn't necessarily mummy or daddy's favourite sport - and if the kids get involved at a young age it may stick

No one from NSW in their right mind would support someone like Folau who, just like Inglis, was born in NSW and yet chose to turn his back on his home state and represent the merkins north of the border.

Starts and ends there, actually add yawnion to that lot. Western suburb mums are usually the ones in the crowd screaming for little johnny to trample heads...

If Western Sydney has been too hard for Rugby to get into seriously what chance has AFL got??

Will not make 8 years and will leave a MASSIVE hole in the bottom of the coffers of AFL (As big as it is)!

you would think the smart move would be to put the team in perth or adelaide or rural queensland maybe, somewhere there is no local nrl team and they have the place to themselves instead of in the middle of nrl heartland fighting tooth and nail just to survive

The AFL already have teams in Perth and Adelaide the point is to put a team in a large population base that doesn't have a team already. I don't think they'll become a powerhouse in Western Sydney but they'll generate some support though, albeit that might come at the sacrifice of the Swans though. One AFL team in Sydney is enough and the Giants will sway some of the Swans supporters over rather than create new supporters.

Good luck to the Giants. If they can get 17,000 members it means they have been pro-active in their recruitment. NRL Clubs could learn a lot from the AFL on how it promotes its code...

Oh my ..i cant believe you fall for the AFL propaganda machine..

Firstly They have had a whole generation of Ausfumble in schools ,Swans on in prime time, massive media promotion, yet That generation have very little interest,in fact, crowds memberships & ratings are going backwards..
Plus dont believe the Numbers put out by AFL house..they were proven to be liars by a senate committee..They claimed 20K juniors in WS,when in fact it was 3K..20K was for the whole of NSW & ACT combined.

Secondly they continually contradict themselves..
We are giving the poor little white kids a chance to play a sport where they wont have to get hurt playing aganst the bigger Poly kids.
& then this
We spent millions on 2 islander/poly RL players to attract Poly players to the game..
The reality is ...
They actually brought two players who have no connection to WS at all .
Two QLD /Bronco/storm players will not encourage kids of WS to take up the sport.

Then there is the insult of telling people from WS that you now live in Greater Western Sydney,as decreed by AFL House..

I cannot believe peole fall for the spin.

What I'd like to know is, what is the NRL doing in primary schools and for junior development in general? Many primary schools in western Sydney have visits and recieve handouts from Auskick. Rarely do I ever see anything from ARL development or the NRL. They have never been to my children's schooI or any of my nephews school's either. I seriously thought that the NRL would get off it's ass and do something when Auskick started up and even more so with the inclusion of GWS. It also wouldn't hurt to have a representative from the NRL to regularly visit junior Rugby League clubs and see how tough they are doing it. You don't look after the kids, we don't have a game.simple

Yeah, Auskick goes to schools in Western Sydney, and yes they hand out their little Auskick goofus, and do you know what happens with those Auskick footys? They get used to play league.
