Best of luck mate, treatment for this kind of thing has come so far and I know you’ll be back to full health in no time. You’ve got plenty of support here, here’s hoping the mighties give you something to take your mind off things a bit.

Very sad to hear your news blacksafake and my very best wishes for a speedy and full recovery

Having been on the medical merry go round for more than a decade I can offer the following advice

Listen to and trust your specialist they are the experts

Don’t do Dr Google

You will get tired and cranky so get plenty of rest

Remember you are not alone as your family will be on this journey with you

Stay positive and don’t let depression set in. Medical science is amazing and new and better treatments are found every day.

So good luck to you buddy stay strong

We're lucky to have some of the best medical practitioners in the world here mate, so as others have noted, trust your doctors but make informed decisions. Stay strong and positive. Stay close to your friends and family, they will help you through this. This is going to sound stupid, but try to keep a sense of humour where you can, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes. My wife is going through treatment for breast cancer at the moment, and if it wasn't for her humour I'd be struggling. Take care.

Hi all sorry to bother you but I’m starting Chemo & Radiation tomorrow for my throat & was looking for any advice as far as what to do or not do from anyone who has been through this before & what to expect.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry to hear this BAF. For what it's worth I am just coming to the end of a 5 weeks chemo and radiation treatment to hopefully shrink a tumour in my oesophagus. The plan is to make surgical removal easier and minimise the spread of the cancer to other organs which they say is a feature of this type of cancer. I guess everyone is different but my first week or so was fairly smooth sailing, but by the fourth & fifth week the pain in my digestive tract started to gain momentum and the specialist gave me painkillers. I am now living on yoghurt and Sustagen and of course beer is off the menu.
I wish you all the best.

Thanks OT.
Have already been banned from Dr Google by my specialist.

Some say I’m old, tired & cranky now so they’ll be used to it lol.

I intend to remain strong.
