I’m a bit on the fence with this and not sure which one I agree with.. can totally see this side of thinking, but part of me also thinks the outside defenders are made come in and potentially make different decisions to what they would have if the defender that was taken out was still able to run across. Foran might not necessarily have gotten there to stop the try, but the outside defence might have been different story.

For better or worse the rule is there, and coaches need to work around them and remind their players not to get caught out when practicing those moves.

However Newcastle are very ordinary in attack, all their attack continues to revolve around Ponga, their wins will depend on other teams stuffing up.
