Soccer City in SA is 95,000. ANZ seats are too far away. IMHO.

Why bother spending more money on ANZ??? And if they do it's less chance of a Parra stadium upgrade or rebuild. Gallop what a gimp.

Just for the record mate, Gallop is pushing hard for the Parra stadium upgrade as well because of the Wanderers.
He doesn't support the new stadium in the city.

Well that makes his position on ANZ even more stupid, they spend 600m on ANZ they won't be spending SFA at Parra Stadium. Surely a new Parra stadium is the first priority for western Sydney??? ANZ is a steaming pile of poo.

Yes but there us only so much money to go around, Parra should be the priority and mentioning ANZ won't help our chances. Moore Park will also get the go ahead they won't spend money on 3 stadiums.

I know that. But it appears, with every snippet of an article, there is more and more likelihood that Pirtek is going to be the first cab off the rank.
Tbh, I don't care what they do with the other two stadiums.
My point was though, that Gallop isn't the dope you think he is. If he's pushing for a Pirtek upgrade, he's alright by me. I win both ways. Parra and the Wanderers.
I know you bag ANZ, and rightly so, but Pirtek is a shit hole currently. It needs some money spent on it desperately. I think this will happen.
Also, don't be surprised if there's more than $600 million in the kitty when decisions are made.
I wouldn't be worried that "our" money is going to be spent on ANZ if I were you.
The current state govt knows all too well that NSW is falling behind in capital investment in stadia compared to other states.

This sort of thing would be perfect for the Parra CBD.

From the Ukraine. 35000 capacity.
If that country can do it, why can't we?????

That doesn't look much like a CBD to me, Suity. Surely it's much cheaper to build stuff in the middle of an open plain than between a public pool and a world heritage listed park, in a city with poor traffic flow.

Ukraine is a developed country of 50million...

Not sure saying 'anything they can do we can do better' is valid?

Not sure saying 'anything they can do we can do better' is Vlad ?

Fixed. I think the Ukrainian dude who is built is called Vlad mate.

pirtek should be first cab off the rank for development seeing we have two teams playing out of it so there's double the revenue
i know parra haven't sold the place out lately but the wanderers do

If that's your argument - 2 teams play out of Pirtek, then ANZ wins hands down.

THREE new Sydney sports arenas — including an $800 million, 55,000-seat venue to replace Moore Park’s Allianz stadium — would be built under the findings of a confidential government report.

A new $150 million indoor arena for tennis, basketball and netball is also recommended for construction near Sydney’s CBD, along with a $300 million, 30,000-seat venue at Parramatta to *replace Pirtek Stadium.

The report, written by *former NSW Liberal leader John Brogden for the Baird government, outlines a $1.85 billion Sydney stadium plan to be implemented over more than a decade.

It recommends $300 million be spent on Homebush’s ANZ Stadium in about seven years’ time, either fully roofing the 83,500-seat mega-venue or moving lower-level seats closer to the field.

The report, expected to be considered by Premier Mike Baird’s Cabinet within the next month, calls on sporting codes such as the NRL and Football Federation Australia to help fund the Sydney stadium upgrades.

Mr Baird has been focused on limiting stadium expenditure to $600 million but well-placed sources said the state government was now exploring how further funds could be raised.

“If you only spend $600 million you’re just sprinkling around a bit of fairy dust — you won’t be building the world-class stadiums Sydney needs to compete with Melbourne and other cities,’’ one source said.

Mr Brogden also suggested the government sell off surplus land at Sydney Olympic Park, which could raise about $50 million.

He also said a super trust should be set up to manage the stadium network and borrow monies needed to help fund construction.

The plan, which is believed to be supported by Sport Minister Stuart Ayres, would see the outdated Allianz Stadium at Moore Park demolished.

The 27-year-old stadium would be replaced with a hi-tech, 55,000 to 60,000 seat venue which would become Australia’s biggest purpose-built rectangular stadium, superseding Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

The new stadium, which would be connected to the CBD by light rail, would be built on the existing Allianz site, with work projected to start in three years. It could be completed by 2020.

Mr Brogden has backed away from building the new venue on parklands after The Daily Telegraph revealed the proposal in May, triggering anger from local residents and the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust.

The recommendation for a 10,000 to 12,000-seat indoor stadium is believed to be winning support among the Premier’s key advisers.

The most likely location is Wentworth Park, where greyhounds presently race.

Any work at ANZ Stadium, the Sydney 2000 Olympics arena, would not begin until after the new Allianz venue was completed.

Mr Brogden, who declined to comment on his report yesterday, is believed to favour fully roofing ANZ to increase its all-weather appeal for international music acts and indoor conventions.

“This would give Sydney the biggest, fully roofed venue in Australia,’’ a source said.

The new Parramatta stadium, home to the Western Wanderers and the Parramatta Eels, would be the first venue completed.

The Brogden report also envisages the need for *another $300 million, 30,000-seat stadium servicing *Western Sydney in 10 years or more but did not nominate a site.

Possible locations could include Liverpool, Campbelltown and Penrith

PLANS have begun to bring former rugby league champion Jarryd Hayne and his San Francisco 49ers to Sydney.

While Hayne is yet to secure a spot on the 49ers roster, the prospect of him playing back at ANZ Stadium as an NFL star is tantalising.

NSW Premier Mike Baird contacted former Australian NFL player Colin Scotts on Tuesday to begin discussions about the plan.

Scotts and Baird will formally meet next week.

NSW Minister for Sport, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres said Sydney had a proven track record of staging world-class sporting events.

Maybe a preseason game...but the NFL commissioner has already said there's no chance a regular season game will be played in Australia. The TV networks would kick up too much of a fuss.

Western Sydney Wanderers weighing up playing games at Belmore Sportsground

With Pirtek Stadium poised to be demolished for a $300 million, 30,000-seat stadium, the Western Sydney Wanderers have begun exploring the possibility of moving games to Belmore Sportsground during construction.

The Wanderers recently made enquiries with NRL club Canterbury about playing their FFA Cup game against the Brisbane Roar on August 11 at the spiritual home of the Bulldogs, however, they instead opted to play the match at Penrith's Pepper Stadium.

But with the state government on the verge of announcing their stadia strategy, which is believed to include plans to knock down and rebuild Pirtek Stadium, the Wanderers are once again looking at Belmore as a temporary base.

The Eels, who have a lucrative contract to play a minimum of two games a year at ANZ Stadium, are likely to relocate to Sydney Olympic if construction coincides with the NRL season. However, the Wanderers are weighing up their options.

Those options include the Olympic stadium (83,500 capacity), Campbelltown Sportsground (21,000), Pepper Stadium (22,000) and Belmore Sportsground (20,000).

If the new stadium at Parramatta gets the green light on the existing site as early as 2016, it's understood the Wanderers will ask the club's fans to vote on where they would like to see the matches played.

The Wanderers took that approach for the Asian Champions League final against Al Hilal last year, with the club's supporters voting to host the final at Pirtek Stadium instead of the much larger ANZ Stadium.

The FFA is keen for the Wanderers and Sydney FC to play one of their three Sydney derbies each year at ANZ Stadium but haven't managed to work it into the upcoming season.

However, Fairfax Media understands the FFA and ANZ Stadium remain in negotiations about the possibility of playing one derby game in Homebush, which would likely eclipse the A-League crowd record of 54,436 at the 2006-07 grand final between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United at Etihad Stadium.

The Wanderers have been reluctant to play games at ANZ Stadium in the past because they have been pushing strongly, along with the Parramatta Eels, for an upgrade or redevelopment of Pirtek Stadium.

The Wanderers have played one A-League match at Pepper Stadium, attracting a crowd of 12,663 for their first win of last season against the Wellington Phoenix in 35 degree heat in February.

Their second match at Penrith also produced a win when the Wanderers moved into the final 16 of the FFA Cup with a 1-0 win against the Brisbane Roar earlier this month.

Football club Sydney Olympic still use Belmore Sportsground as their home base for the NSW Premier League competition, with a small office on site.

However, the stadium has been transformed into Canterbury headquarters with the club's offices and training facilities now all at the same venue.

The Bulldogs returned to Belmore for the first time since 1998 this year, attracting a crowd of 19,005 for their round 20 Sunday afternoon match against the Sharks.

If the Wanderers were to play at Belmore, they would have to strike a deal with the Bulldogs as they are the primary tenants.

That article was written by John Lehmann - Editor of the Daily Telegraph, and he couldn't even get the name of the club correct who is the other major tenant of Pirtek Stadium.
What a f**king rag that paper is.

The new Parramatta stadium, home to the Western Wanderers and the Parramatta Eels, would be the first venue completed.

What a f**king douche bag.
