Thanks for the tip Benito. Im not going to apologise for my views. I do understand, however, that theyll probably be diametrically opposed to almost everyone on a sports based forum, thats why I said that I was going to shut up and let it go.

Newman, I see your point but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the actual events. It may, as you say, have become a corporate farce, but it is still the best competition in the world for many other reasons.

Each to their own.

The more money in sport the better

Most people in most sports in the games dont get dick all money for what they're doing so if anything the Olympics are full of athletes who arent competing for cash

Eg, how much sponsorship do shooters, ping pong players, handball players etc etc get during the 4 years they are preparing themselves? Even Petria Thomas gets f**k all, and she won a gold medal in swimming.

Totally agree with SS.

Just wish they'd piss off some of these nothing sports. Anything that doesn't see Olympic gold as its crowning glory should be banished. f**k off the tennis, baseball, soccer, and the rest of it. And I hear golf will be back for Beijing... what a crock!

Shooters get a fair bit. Scoring $12k shotguns for free and sponsorship from the SSAA

I was just going to post a long winded piece of left wing hyperbolic crap about money in sport and the evils of corporate involvement, but I deleted it cause it was kinda boring. Tell me though, do you think that Tiger Woods, Shaquille O'neal et al deserve the enormous
amounts of money that they are paid? And furthermore, on a more grassroots level, how do you feel about the saturation point advertising at Shark Park? Do you even feel that it is saturated?

It is a joke. I couldn't believe it this summer in the cricket when I noticed they even sold advertising on the boundary rope.

That is just going too far.

And who pays for the advertising? You and me.

That's an extremely hard question to answer because of the word: deserve.

In short: Yes, I do.

Saturation point at Toyota Park? Really, it doesn't bother me.

Thanks.

Gee don, generally the company who is paying for the advertising!
Which in turn, if anything, reduces the cost of tickets

And is it not out of the question that they factor the cost of advertising into the cost of their goods and services?

Ergo, you and I pay for it in the end.

Actually SS the adversiting that companies buy generally goes straight onto the price of the goods at sale point, so all consumers pay for it in the end.

regarding shark park, I dont think there is enough advertising to be honest, however the point i think that sho8uld be made is that there is QUALITY advertising, and there is the just plain annoying stuff that too often we are offered up !

I'd like to see more advertising at Toyota Park.

We have two stands, a beer hill, a southern hill, a big screen, a scoreboard and a swamp that haven't had the naming rights sold yet.

That's obvious isnt it
But while everyone is whingeing about marketing
I must point out that no one forces you into buying a brand that is advertised during the footy/cricket/whatever
