I think it has alot to do with bad results, I know myself this year we didnt have a hope of even making the 8, So it is hard to get on here and post when we are always losing.

I love coming on here to view the Eels forum but there just arent that many good threads to comment in.

I've met MITS, JessEel, Hellsy, Nikki, HJ, Bartman and i think Suitman in real life and they are all very nice people who made me and my wife feel very welcome in the Eels group at various games.

I agree - but it isn't necessarily confined to the "older posters". Too often a discussion takes place and, when someone posts something that is their opinion, and it is in contradiction to someone else's opinion, instead of debate and discussion brewing, insults start to fly. "You're an idiot if you think that," or, "You must be on drugs," or things of such ilk. And then more damage is created when someone [rightfully] takes offence to it - because then the standard, "It's a forum - toughen up," line gets trotted out.

We're all human beings here, and we're all people who love the Eels. We're not all always going to agree with everything - take Daniel Wagon as an example. Some loved him, some didn't rate him, others were indifferent. But to me there is no reason why the topic at hand can't be discussed without resorting to personal comments, tongue-in-cheek or not.

You're right Eele and that's where respect comes into the equation.

As a long time reader, only occasional poster, the thing I've noticed in the last few years is respect for each other here has gone out the window. So what if people have different opinions? That's what we come here to read, but there are some people who never fail to make personal comments whenever someone writes something they don't happen to agree with. That's what has gone down hill here if anything.

If you disagree with someone, just put your own point of view and support that - but debate should never get personal, even if personal comments are made for someone's idea of fun. Someone earlier mentioned ganging up on people, and it does happen here - just look at how people respond to the first person to write a somewhat unpopular opinion? Funnily enough when the majority here later comes to share that same opinion, then it's all suddenly ok....

Someone also wrote that this place is what the members make it. But as a long time reader I think moderators have a major role in shaping the nature of each of the forums here? When you see some moderators writing negative personal attacks on other members (even if tongue in cheek) in the forum, then there's not much hope at all for improvement - it'll just become pack mentality across the board.

Anyway, it's still worth coming here to read people's opinions about the games and the direction of the team and club. But such a shame to have to wade through more and more of the personal garbage that isn't deleted or moved on first sight and brings down the tone the place once had.

This is where you're just plain wrong.

There is no 'consensus opinion' in this place. This is the kind of victimhood bullshit people throw out when they're called on their negativity.

I think if you sit back and try to be objective you'll see that every opinion is unpopular with one group or another around here. I don't know how you can say one opinion is unpopular and another one is popular. An example is Sefton Boy - all he does is rag on Luke Burt, which is why he cops so much grief. It's like he doesn't have anything else to say.

For the record I mostly agree with him on Burt but I try not to be an anti-Burt one trick pony so I'm not vilified for my (mostly) negative view of Luke Burt.

It's not the opinion that gets people dogpiled; it's the constant and negative way they're put across.

That's where the divide is I believe, there are a handful of posters (me being one) who are sick of 2 years of shit and don't really see much hope due to the same squad being around next year with only 1 consistent first grader joining and then there are a handful who are adamant that we are building something for next year and only see positives.......then hilarity ensues........

Everyone else is just sick of hearing us handful fight each other I guess.....
