OT: Who saw this? Legal or illegal?

Stood down pending a meeting with the judiciary, that has been deferred pending consulting both Knights and Storm from which a date will be set. The Storm can seek leave to play him if they wish however, but probably won't and whatever time he isn't playing currently will come off any time suspended.
Looks like they just didn't want to knee jerk reaction and slap an over the top grade on it and discuss the matter with the clubs first, see what plans both clubs may have to assist McKinnon, and also to see what the media blow up over the issue is before trying to not factor in injury into the sentence this time around.

Apparently the poor bugger is now in an induced coma. Hope it's all just precautionary and he has a full recovery.

From what I read Mad, the induced coma is actually done to help. Lowers core body temp and allows swelling to go down faster so less possible damage and better chance of recovery, they did the same thing with Schumacher to give him the best chance of recovery as well.

What's the latest on Schumacher? It was leaked he had made a slight improvement but has been in a coma for weeks.

I think the McLean tackle was not even worth being on report. Poor kid may get sued if given any form of penalty. Accidents can and always will happen. I believe this was an accident.

Cant remember a coat hanger in the last few years that did that much damage. Seen some bad looking spear tackles that players get no injury from.

Cannonball tackle has been outlawed with good reason. I see that as dangerous. The try scored by Brett Morris could lead to injury but hasn't so far.

Well I hope that's the case. Got to feel for the bloke and his family and friends.

Last I heard on Schumacher is that they are still trying to revive but the former F1 Chief Doc said to prepare for the worst, longer it all goes on for the less chance he has of recovering.

I feel for everyone involved, Alex and his family, Jordan would be dealing with some serious guilt atm and even Smith would be thinking why the hell did I carry on like that.

It was an extremely tragic accident and no one could argue there was intent or malice in the tackle, just went very wrong very quickly. Had they taken him full vertical he probably would of been better off.

Plenty of tackles look worse, the spears on Inglis last year looked horrible but few spears have 4 lots of body weight combined with driving force onto a vulnerable area at a bad angle, most are just the legs taken out with the players weight only coming down on the neck with very little drive bar gravity.

Reactionary, appease the community type suspension. He definitely lifted him so he should have got a few weeks, maybe.

He would of gotten 1 week if there was no injury. At most. The whole process is a sham.

Here's one report of how it may of gone down. The judiciary seems to of had no phuqen clue what to do.

McLean is a victim of NRL inaction and incompetence. They have allowed this type of tackle go on and on despite many opinions from fans, players, coaches and medical experts that something like what has happened to poor Alex was in fact, going to happen.

I think it stinks.

We all feel shocked with what happened to Alex, that is a given. Poor bugger.

But the length of suspension stinks for sure.

My major concern for the young storm bloke is that his mental attitude will be stuffed from here on in too. It is similiar to a professional boxer that hammers his opponent into the next world.

This incident/accident has ruined two NRL players careers I believe.

The old saying "there by the grace of god goes you and I" applies here.

I know of three examples of where I could of been in a similiar spot as Alex and I thank my lucky stars everyday i am upright.

So the young kid is paying the price for what the NRL should have done a long time a go and ban gang tackles, talk about a Pontius pilate act by the NRL.

I can relate to that Quigsy. A couple of spear tackles in my playing career ended up in neck braces. Luckily for me that I have f**k all neck which helped.

Watch the NRL act now. Smith and his cronies will be doing something very very soon.

A question without notice:

Where is the Commission in all of this?

Get ridda the bloody gang tackle. It's been a blight on the game ever since the Dogs introduced it 30-odd years ago. Slows the game up makes it more boring.

I think they need to reward a good legs tackle. Players get chopped down one on one then get back up in an instant. Let those tacklers hang on for longer and they'll see a shift from the 3 man wrestle. As it is there is no reward for a classic tackle.
