We made 100 more metres than the titans, won the penalty count 11-3 and made less missed tackles and the offloads we're 14 - 1 our way. We were down in there 20 plenty, wonder who's fault is that?????

Our defence was soft where it counted - on our line.
All those that are defending Tim Smith - I really cant see it. At least Finch tried hard, I have absolutely NO idea what Tim Smith adds to the team.

i don't know about you guys, but where is the enthusiasm ???

This is what PJ use to bring to the club, when he was on he would get involved and get in and rip in ...

THats what i have noticed this time round, Titans good luck to them, look at the kick chase all friggin game ours was non existant ...

Our team looks to have no passion or something is lacking from them ... but every year our start to the season is down and we generally play better middle of the year and onwards ... fingers crossed it happens again this year cause i know manly will be ready to pounce on us after what they went through ...

As a team, I agree 100%, no passion, lazy, no kick chase etc... Hagan needs to sack the defence coach IMO & get Peter Sharp back. Also the Titans looked in much better physical condition. I think Parra had a very lazy offseason, ... probably reading too many articles on how they're going to finish in the top four & be a contender for the premiership.

YES it is terrible cause our attack doesnt ask their d any questions,They all know timmy wont run and 99% of the time its an inside ball so just pick the runner and smash him.Parras forwards run one out so just hammer them they dont pass before the line either job done game plan vs eels.

Who's fault is that???? It can't be all Tim's. Hagan has to take some of the flak IMO. And the defensive coach, not sure what he's been doing, not much by the looks.

We are conceding more than 20 points per game. If you concede 20 points per game you are not going to win too many games. Therein ends the lesson.

Look there are positives to this, and i am looking at it this way ...

2004 which was a poor year we had 3 wins and 2 losses, 2005 we had 2 wins and 3 losses in round 5 we got shallacked by the broncos and we still finished on top ... 2006 well we actually had 1 win and 4 losses still found a way to get into the semi's and in 2007 we were 2 losses early then 3 wins ...

History shows we are scratchy at the start of the year, in 2005 we beat the storm in melbourne after coping it from broncos, so if anything thats what i am hanging on to .. there is hope for this year but our pack needs to be changed up ... something has to change there ...

HAHAHAHAHA not much but its something, history shows we are crap in the first 10 games ..... and we get better as the year goes on ...

Better team won tonight ... simple ...

I thought our defence was solid and intense for most of the game. The Prince try was a shocker though, after such a strong attacking position to concede such a soft try in return shows the consistent effort is not there.

I agree with some I actually think tonight was probably our best game so far this year. Titans are one of the form sides of the comp and have the current best player in the comp and he was the difference.

I do thought our defence was better. We went down by 8 points in a very close game against a good side, we didn't get flogged. And a couple of tries bombed and they had some crucial plays that were game changing, notables the 40/20 and grothe being trapped in goal.

Timmy must improve but he was better than last week, much better. The grand question with any player is the alternative better. If we do drop timmy, we need to find another guy of first grade standard, for the moment knowing what he can do I would be sticking with him.

Our outside backs each week have fallen foul because they fail to defend together in times of crisis, one goes up one goes back, one stands still. Jeffries showed us they rushed up and in and he got in the way a few times. A classic was hayne missing campbell, TT stayed put, Hayne rushes forward gets stepped and massive problem. Prince scores next play.

Just wonder about Hauraki and Paulo, they are just too slow around ruck. If they make the tackle it is danger for us as marker defence is almost non existent. Their attack is fine, but their defence is why at 23 and 25 they have spent most of their career in lower grades, need to find their feet soon.

But I still think overall much better than last week. If we had won all 4 to this point the criticism would not be so harsh on this performance.

Yep we were better, but then again we couldnt get worse could we ?

How long do we persist with Tim Smith ??? Honestly. Every week we say - he is getting better. Perhaps by Round 25 he may be playing to a NRL standard. What a waste of a year. So much potential in this team and here we are again - waiting for out of form players to get better. There should never be a mortgage on a spot. The axe has to fall !!

I don't know anything about coaching but even I know if you're standing still on your defensive line and someone is charging at you then you are going to be in serious trouble. What is it with our players standing on the goal line and watching the ball players and giving them time and space?

Keep going, next week is a new week, it takes time to get over injuries and remember his pre-season was bad so about 10 rounds of footy will sort him out ...

he just has to keep working at it, like all players and you know what FInchy has to stay at our club that guy is great, i think again we did some silly things tonight but we will improve next week once we get the field position we need to come up with some better options in attack where it be running lines or something ...

Maybe play Mateo at 5 8th in that attacking zone on the left and having finchy come in at first receiver on the left and when its on the right have timmy and mateo or something like that happening ...

Better game this week but ...

What's that got to do with defence?? If you want to rant like a "sooky sooky la la" then start another anti Tim Smith thread. He was up there making tackles, good on him.

Without opening the coaches manual too far, most teams have defences that are more of less on a par - even ours. The difference between say the Storm and the eels in defence is fatigue. Its what seperates the good defences from the bad, what creates holes behind the ruck and makes brick walls.
The halves settle the plays, they keep structure, they make sure when they kick the ball it has meaning, they get repeat plays.

Cooper Cronk will never be a great of the game but he does all the little things well and by doing this, he gives his forwards the approprite rest to be able to settle their defence something which is very hard to do when you are always on the back foot.

Our defence was outstanding tonight..... except when we were defending our own line!

We did all the hard work in their half, then as soon as they got a sniff, we got lazy. And it was across the park today, in fact our better side were Reddy and Grothe tonight.

I said the same thing tonight, who the f**k is in charge of our defence?

Our defence needs a lot of improving.

Three area's of concern -

1. Line speed - we're simply not moving up. Alot has to do with attitude and application
2. The ruck area was shocking - particularly the first 2 Titans tries
3. Our goal line defence is up the sh*t. They lack confidence and dont seem to trust each other. A lot has to do with the team structure. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Big Ben will make a HUGE difference.

In saying this, Chad was great in his first game back. Well done!
