Josh Cordoba also made some great tackles tonight
Amazing that he is so popular - I wonder why that is ??
Josh was one of the few positives to come out of tonight, him and Keating continue to impress.Josh Cordoba also made some great tackles tonight
Without opening the coaches manual too far, most teams have defences that are more of less on a par - even ours. The difference between say the Storm and the eels in defence is fatigue. Its what seperates the good defences from the bad, what creates holes behind the ruck and makes brick walls.
The halves settle the plays, they keep structure, they make sure when they kick the ball it has meaning, they get repeat plays.
Cooper Cronk will never be a great of the game but he does all the little things well and by doing this, he gives his forwards the approprite rest to be able to settle their defence something which is very hard to do when you are always on the back foot.
very trueI'm not sure about the fatigue comment. We look very slow both in attack and defence.
Hagan has som ereal issues on his hands. One thing that bothers me is that Hagan has never coached a side whuch was strong defensively.
As good as Knights were with johns, they would leak some heavy points at times
That's rubbish. The Storm can defend and defend for the entire 80 minutes. If you can do that you put yourself in a great position to win the football game. Parra played with intense defence for a couple of sets, but then let easy breaks be made up the middle. Strong defensive sides do not do that. That's what separates us from the Storm, it has nothing to do with fatigue.
We are conceding more than 20 points per game. If you concede 20 points per game you are not going to win too many games. Therein ends the lesson.
Amazing eh... I think it's amazing how any thread in this forum about any topic suddenly results in criticism of Tim Smith. If you wanna bag Tim Smith go for it, but save it for another one of those 20,000 threads already doing so instead of making this this thread number 20,001.
So as the title says defence and you acknowledge that if we concede more than 20 points per game we will lose, how exactly is this Tim Smith's fault??????
As someone else said, bag him all you like in every other thread but why in this DEFENCE thread?????????
You sound like you are laying the boot in for the sake of it......
You see young grasshopper its all connected to those who play in the halves.
Am I laying the boot into Tim ? Maybe I am. but I am saying there is a connection.
If I wanted to lay the boot into Tim for the sake of it, I would just go to the "tim smith appreciation" thread.
What does the half have to do with defence though? I don't get it......
That's rubbish. The Storm can defend and defend for the entire 80 minutes. If you can do that you put yourself in a great position to win the football game.
Jeez Ant that's two posts in a row where you analyse in a sensible fashion - you'll be banned from the internet soon!I think our defence was much better we generally did move up fast.
Our outside backs are going to take time. We would have spent the whole off season with the first round combo
Hayne/Grothe right side
Inu/Reddy left side
Now we have
Hayne/TT left side
Reddy/Grothe right side.
The pre-season was spent practicing with mateo and finch 3 in on each side, now its finch and Smith.
So our whole outside defence is learning and TT, Hayne and Reddy have played very little first grade in their current spots.
People just expect miracles from everybody, straight away. Continuity is what creates good teams.
i disagree about our line speed however. I still think we were slow.
